Bill, do you have any early Braggs there? My husband's great-great grandmother was Sidney Ann Bragg born Feb. 1, 1823, married George Washington Taylor in Washington, NC March 7, 1837, and died in Beaufort, NC August 20, 1883. There was another Sidney Bragg, who was a generation earlier than this one. I suspect this Sidney's father was a brother of the first Sidney Bragg. We have not been able to determine my husband's Sidney Ann's parents. In the 1850 and 1850 censuses, a Zilphia Bragg, who was probably Sidney's mother was living with G. W. and Sidney Bragg Taylor, first in New Bern and then in Beaufort. The Taylor's were merchants, owned sailing ships and were probably in the same business in each of those old-time port cities. In Beaufort, the Taylors were Episcopalians. Sidney Ann Bragg's father and perhaps even her mother, Zilphia, could be buried in that Washington church cemetery. Thanks. John You may be referring to the "Colonial Cemetery".... a paper (11 pages) written in 1940 by a student at Wake Forest College. You are in luck since that paper was included in "Beaufort County, NC Cemeteries, Book 2, Cemeteries Named A-C" compiled and published by the Beaufort County Genealogical Society, 2003. Book may be purchased through the BCGS, PO Box 1089, Washington, NC 27889. There is a very old Episcopal Church on E. Market Street in Washington, NC. Some years ago a Graduate Student inventoried the cemetery and the church had the information but were not allowing anyone to use it as they were going to publish and sell it. Does anyone in this group have any information of this?? John

Paula, I have 2 files of Gone but not forgotten that PCRF doesn't have.. There are graves in Edgecombe and Martin County in the files. I am working on some grave sites just in Edgecombe county that I haven't keyed yet because there are somemore that I want to get in Edgecombe County before I submit them. Betsy Ross, I have lots of other graves for a radius of 15 miles of nothern Pitt County, touching also in to Martin and Edgecombe. Tell me how to down load them so that the Other Geneolagy sites can get them. I have 100 + sites in Edgecombe county that I have not loaded as there are a couple of cemteries in Edgecombe county that I will get on a nice cold day after Christmas. These are mostly on farm land in the middle of fields. I love old cemeteries. They want to be found. Annette Ginn Roebuck, Senior Sis

Dani I would think Susan White age 20 in 1860 would be a relative of Fred's...maybe a younger sister or niece. Susan A. 5/12 is 5 months old. The information on the top of the census page indicates the information was recorded on Sept. 26, 1850. If Susan A was 5 mo. old on Sept 26 she must have been born in late April 1850.(assuming the age 5 mo. was correct) Brenda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dani" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 05, 2005 12:30 AM Subject: Re: [NC-PCFR] Re: Frederick White > Thank you, Brenda. Dani, I also looked at Fred White in the 1880 census. He is in Contentnea Twp. In Pitt Co. with second wife Franky White. In this census of 1880 he is listed age 67 (b. 1813), so I would think the 1824 date is late for his birthyear. We have 1813 from 1880 census, 1816 from 1870 census, and 1814 from 1850 census. That averages out 1814. The 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records all give his birthplace as NC. Brenda
Dani, You wrote: > Yes it does help, Thank you. But was he born in 1824 or 1814? Can you > confirm that? Thanks, Dani Frederick White's age is estimated from the census records for Pitt Co., NC in 1850, 1860, and 1870. 1850 Census, Pitt Co., Griffin Twp. Fred White 26 (b.1824) Mary White 30 Jacky A 6 Mary A 5 John B 2 Susan A 5/12 Susan White 20 1860 Census Pitt Co. Greenville Twp. Fredrick White 46 (b. 1814) Mary White 50 J A 16 M A 13 J B 11 Susan 9 Martha 7 1870 Census Pitt Co. Contentnea Twp. Fred White 54 (b.1816) Mary 50 John 22 Martha 17 Margaret 15 Mary A Cannon 23 Tilghman Cannon 2 John T Cannon 6/12 Next door to Fred White in 1870 is: Elizabeth White 16 Edward White 1 John Cannon 49 Is this Elizabeth White a child of Fred and Mary White? Is this John Cannon, age 49, father or grandfather of Tilghman Cannon and John T. Cannon in Fred White's household next door? It's very common in census records for the age of a person to vary in several census years. In 1850 Fred White's birth year is indicated to be 1824. In 1860, it is 1814. In 1870 it is 1816. An average of these three would be 1818. ...Or you might feel the two census records indicating 1814 and 1816 are pretty close together and might be seen as probably more correct than 1824. Mary''s age is listed as 50 in 1860 and 1870. I would suspect it was probably 40 in 1860. That would indicate 1820 as her birth year in all three census years. It's hard to know how to interpret these inconsistencies in Census records unless you have a different source that would confirm their ages in one of these records. Brenda
Thank you, Brenda. What really confused me was Susan White age 20. (1850 census) But, looking at it further I realized there was a Susan A (who was married to Joe Jones), that other Susan must have been a relative of Fred's. But, what does 5/12 mean for Susan A. She was born in 1850. Does that mean she is 5 months old? Thank you for your help. I am new to this, and I am learning, so excuse the questions. I hope I am not a pest.
