Barbara - I'm familiar with one line of Whichards from Pitt County that is documented in Bob Moore's website, and I've pasted the link below. http://moore.greystar.org/Whichard_Family/whichard_family.html While I don't see a William E. Whichard on his charts, it appears the name was spelled "Whishard" in the late 1700's, and I see a couple of William Whishards as well as a few other given names that match yours below (David, Julian)... these similarities would seem to indicate a common ancestor with yours somewhere along that line. My cousin and I are planning a trip to Pitt Co this fall, we do want to attend the reunion. Since she is from Oklahoma and I am from Texas, and we haven't been to Pitt Co since we were early teens-a long, long time ago, can someone give me a nice, CLEAN extended place to stay-one with a suite, with a fridge, best places to eat, she and I are going to have a genealogy/family history vacation. As far as I know it will be about twenty days. Paula, ALL the marriages recorded at the court house prior to 1866 (only one register) have been abstracted and posted on our web site. A quick look there shows: Fields, John M. Tison, Fanny Ann Dec. 24, 1858 Jesse Baker This register covers 1851-1866 and is in "paragraph" format; the name in my 4th column was the performing official--a minister or a justice of the peace. Many marriages were not registered at all by the officials, because they had to go all the way into Greenville to do it. For the same reason, many were registered "after the fact," especially during the Civil War; the ministers may have remembered the date a little off. Still, the register is a great record and Pitt Co. is lucky to have ANY records prior to the 1858 fire! If someone could, I need a lookup for the marriage of Fannie Ann Tison and James M. Fields in 1858 at Pitt County courthouse. I'm trying to find out if parents are listed. I was looking at the marriages for Pitt County. And, I see a Fannie Ann Tison who married a James M. Fields in 1858. Well, in 1860, there is a J. M. Fields living next door to Thomas Tyson and family in Greene County. By 1870 he cannot be found. I think he died. I remember my aunt telling me that her husband didn't live long. I think Fannie continued to live with her parents even after she married J. M. Fields until she moved to Pitt County in the 1880 census. Can someone do a lookup at the courthouse for me on the Fannie Ann Tison/James M. Fields marriage in 1858? I am VERY excited about this. I have traced my Pitt Co Whichard line as far back as William E. Whichard (C1845 - 2 Nov 1892). He married Elizabeth (Bettie) Harrison (b. 21 Mar 1847; d. 22 Jan 1926) from Martin County. Here is a bit of a clue, maybe. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/greene/court/turnage6994.txt On this link there is a Margaret, Alice and whoever else, children of Moses Turnage. This would make sense if he had died. They are living with the older sister Margaret, maybe Margaret Turnage Rasberry? Don't know. Paula, This "Rasberry Clan" is a difficult branch that's for sure. I can't figure out who the 33 yr.old Cordelia is with Benj. Here is what I found in the 1860 census: Maysville P O, N.C Benj.Rasberry age 60 Cordelia, age 33 Martha, age 14 Francis, age 11 Benj. age 8 also Maysville P O: A.J. Rasberry, age 25 Cordelia, age 22 Cornellia C. age 2 Olivia C, age 3 months again Maysville: Margaret Rasberry, age 33 I can't read the last name of the head of the house..but it's not Rasberry, it's William and Martha ------? also living there are: William R. Rasberry, age 10 Alice (?) Rasberry, age 20 In Lenoir County, Kingston P O, N.C (1860) Mary Rasberry, age 33 John R. age 13 Martha A.,age 12 Patrick, age 11 James , age 9 It's very confusing. That's a good idea, Trish. I'll look at the original when I get to work. Here is why I'm curious: In 1820 and 1830 there is a Benjamin Baker on the Greene Co Census who may be my ancestor. He has a bunch of people living with him in 1820, including 4 girls, 4 boys. His wife may be dead unless he has a young one. He's old, born 1747 or so. Anyway. I think but I'm not certain that he's the older Benjamin Baker who is in Pitt in 1810. I'm looking around for those 4 girls. If they lived, they may have married into Greene Co families. I don't think the Jesse Baker living in Greene in 1850 is related to me. He moved from Edgecombe in 1849. I found a land record. Paula, Yep. I now see this Cordelia and Benjamin Rasberry family in the 1850 Census. I had not collected her name since I really am not a Rasberry reseacher, but now I will. I am definitely interested in all of the Cordelia's. We have to figure out who she was before becoming a Rasberry. There are a lot more Rasberrys in Greene County in 1850 than I had previously noticed. Have you looked at the actual microfilm of the census? I am looking at Murphey's transcribed version. Do you know anything about the child listed as Joseph A., age 16? Do you think he may have been the Alexander J. Rasberry who married Cordelia Lyons? By the way, my 3rd-great-grandfather, Edward B. Carman, was the census taker for Greene County in 1850. He knew how to spell Cordelia, though he made a mess of some of the other names. Hello all, I feel I need to clear up some confusion here. A couple of years ago, Judi Gettier contacted me about my Rasberry line. We found my branch of the tree went off in a different direction than hers. My line will follow at the end of this message. It's been awhile since I've attempted to follow up on Judi's line. We've both been trying to track down the ever elusive Benjamin...lots of Benjamin Rasberry's and I guess too many Cordelia's. I don't know who Benjamin F's. wife was...somewhere along the way, the possibility there was another Cordellia made it's way into the family line...not quite sure how that happened, but it's never been proven. The Rasberry line I'm interested in is: Benjamin (born 1734) in Ga. died 1810 in Morgan County Ga. He married Sarah(?) Benjamin and Sarah had the following children: *Benjamin(b.1797) in Georgia, died 1852, Louisiana, married Mary Tullos Thomas Madison (b.1785) Georgia John (b.1787) William(b.1789)married Nancy Kirby Celia(b.1791) in Georgia, died 1862, Mississippi, married James Baggett Purity(b.1794)in Georgia, died 1854,Mississippi, married William Clower Green(b.1800) in Georgia, died 1859.Alabama, married Mary Mullins * My line: Benjamin and Mary had the following son: Richard "Dick" Rasberry(b.1821) in Miss.died 1867 Louisiana.married Mary Rollins I can continue to the present day. There is much confusion with the Rasberry line...I hope this clears up some of the questions. I hope we can unravel some of this puzzle. thanks to all in the group who have replied to my e-mail. If I can answer any questions, please feel free to ask. Judy T. Paula, I don't know anything about a Cordelia b. abt 1805. That is puzzling. I have a number of Cordelia's in my little database of families, but none that match that date that are not already connected to another husband. My 4 gr-grandmother Cordelia Coward McCoy Jackson Carman, b. 1777 - married 3 times), was the grandmother of Cordelia Lyons (b. abt 1837) who married Alexander J. Rasberry. The name Cordelia was frequently used in that area of Greene County. In the Coward family the name Cordelia can be traced back to ancestor Cordelia Edwards who married James Roberts, Sr. about 1718. Their daughter Dorcas Roberts married into the Coward family who settled in early Dobbs County, so many families of the area descend from this line and the name Cordelia or Cordilla was given to a number of descendants. Cordelia Coward McCoy Jackson Carman's children by her McCoy husband passed the name Cordelia down through their lines as well.
