Liz/John: THX for this great resource. I am Tim Moore, member of PFRC, and 'northern Yankee' descendant of Jacob Moore/Alice Jones (Beaufort)--> Henry Moore/Mary ? (Pitt) --> Benjamin Moore/Martha Bowers (Greenville) ---> Enoch Benjamin Moore/Elizabeth Elanore Albritton ---> Samuel Benjamin Moore (the last of my line born in Pitt) /Emma E. Stillman (up in LI, NY). [I have a Xmas letter home to Greenvile farm from Ft Fisher written by Enoch Moore Jr. in 12/1864 when he was 18.] I did not even know I had NC roots until after I moved here to the Triangle from Boston (and NJ) and my 'daddy' shared some of the Greenville/Pitt County lineage he knew about (Enoch's family inc. Sam and Enoch Jr.) I have since done more research (listed above) and found out where many Moore family names came from, etc. (i.e, my father is Sam; his father and one brother were Enoch; I also have an Unlce Jimmy and Benny).. It is too bad that those of us with this Jacob Moore line cannot seem to get further back than him. `I guess due to the Pitt County courthouse fire. ?? Maybe there is something to be found in the Beaufort data you are working on? I also know there is probably an earlier Ablemarle and VA connection. Look forward to exploring what John has done for us all! THX! Sincerely, Tim Moore
Good news! John McGowan, the new NCGenWeb county coordinator for our parent county, Beaufort, has asked me to pass along his opening announcement, following at the end of this message. I've contributed my own Beaufort County data (accessed through our own Main Menu under "Pitt's Parent County") to John who is posting them on the official county website. My link will eventually be changed to reflect their new location. If you have friends and contacts who are researching Beaufort Co., please pass the new URL to them. John has a long history of dedication to sharing resource material --his Hyde Co. web site is an inspiration! I'm sure you'll find him helpful in every way. ANNOUNCEMENT Folks, You are invited, one and all, to visit the new and much improved Beaufort Co., NCGenWeb Pages web site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbeafor/ncbeau.htm My name is John McGowan, mailto:[email protected] and many of my ancestors were from Beaufort County, including Martins, Aldersons, Gurganus, Davis, Winfields, McGowans, Hodges and others. I am descended from even more families from Hyde County. The new Beaufort Pages will be dedicated to research and assistance. I am in the process of posting new items at this moment with much more to come. I have posted the 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1850 Beaufort census records online and work has begun on the 1830 and 1840 censuses. I will appreciate any and all contributuions. Volunteers are always appreciated. Your comments and constructive critisms are welcome. However, please keep in mind that I am having to create a totally new web site from the ground up, so your patience and assistance will be appreciated. Please send your Queries, Surnames, or other info to me at mailto:[email protected] for posting directly onto the Beaufort Co., NCGenWeb Pages web site. I am also host of the Hyde Co., NCGenWeb Pages at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nchyde/HYDE.HTM which now has over 2050 pages of data and research, so cooperation between the counties will be all the better. I look forward to our research. Thanks, John B. McGowan [email protected]

Found an interesting document online. The 1801 Petition of Milley and Howey Lane (infants) against the estate of Isham Lane, their father. It states Isham Lane the younger "only reputed to be the son of the said intestate, that he was not born in wedlock and was not legally intitled to any share of the property real or personal of his intestate." Children named "BRYAN LANE, MATHEW, JOHN, CULLEN, BETHANEY, SALLY, PENNY, ELIZABETH and your petitioners, MILLEY and HOWEY, his only legitimate children." For details: see http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/wayne/court/lane02.txt Did you notice the name of Thomas Lane on the March 1779 Dobbs County voter list... he was listed with Isham Lane Jr and Isham Lane Sr. Thank you for replying. Seeking information on Samuel Lane born about 1800 possibly in Wayne County. He marr Rhody Tomlinson in 1830s probably in Wayne County since that is where she lived. By 1840 census the Samuel Lane family moved to Beaufort County where Samuel and Rhody died. Their children were named: William Riley Lane Mary A Lane John Lane Rhody was daughter of Thomas Tomlinson and Mary "Polly" Rountree. This Tomlinson family lived in the area of Wayne County that became Wilson County. The property Rhody inherited in 1841 (from her father) was located on south side of Contentnea Creek near Daniels Chapel Church. Have searched for over 15 years for these ancestors.... just recently found parents of Rhody and her surname Tomlinson. Help appreciated. Rae Jean ... in Tennessee

Arthur' daughter, Polly, married my gg grandfather James "Jim" Jones. Does anyone know where I can get James's middle initial? Does anyone have Bible records that belonged to Arthur? I found a James Jones that was born in 1817, in Stokes Co. But he had a middle initial of D. This is the only James Jones I found with that birth year. Is it my James Jones? Does anyone have any records? Thank you so much for your help. Dani
