    3. On the web site for Augusta Co., VA, is a lot of information about the pioneers who stayed in that county on their way to Rowan/Iredell Co. and on. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vaaugust/ They have a project on-going to transcribe Lyman Chalkley's "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, 1745-1800" into electronic form for on-line access. The have completed a significnat part of this already. This text includes abstracts of order books and other legal and court documents. Further, the website has several maps, but most importantly it has a copy of a 1954 map of Beverly Manor which shows where all of the farms were, who was the original owner, year of purchase (could be year deed was recorded? - many were very late), size of plot. Note: Augusta Co., VA was formed from Orange County in 1745 so the earliest records are in Orange County. As an example of how useful these records can be let me describe my findings for my Davidson ancestors who lived in Augusta Co., VA, before migrating to Iredell County, NC, area in 1749. Davidson Data: (note: the Davidson families there did not add the 2nd "d" until after they left Virginia) from the map: John Davison 1738 785 acres Samuel Davison 1739 353 acres >From the Order book extracts: Order Book II, Page 490 28 Nov 1750 Saml. Davison, Saml. Lockhart, added to the tithables, own motion. Order Book III, p. 188 29 Aug 1751 William Morrison married the widow of John Davison Order Book IV, p. 142 25 Mar 1754 Road from Alexr Sayer's Mill to James Davison's, on Holdston's River, James Davis and James McCall, overseers. Judgements May 1755 Thomas Moore and Phebe, his wife, vs. Abraham Smith and Gabriel Pickens. -- Phebe, late Phebe Davison. "Phebe Davison, spinster.", Bond date 1751. Comment: Samuel and John Davison cannot be proven as related, yet their families stay very close together over several moves. These seem to be the only Davisons or Davidsons families in Beverly Manor through 1750. John Davison is known to have migrated to Iredell about 1748 and he and his son George did surveys in that year. He died there in 1749/50. We know that his wife re-married a William Morrison. The data above ostensibly proves that the John Davison in Beverly Manor was the same John Davison in Iredell. The above data is the first official recognition of that second marriage that I have found. Samuel is thought to have remained in Virginia until maybe as late as 1765. He migrated to either Rowan or Tryon Co., and from there to York Co., SC. James was his son, baptised at Tinkling Spring church in 1741, the first year that Rev. John Craig was serving there. (This implies that earlier family members born in Beverly Manor may not have baptismal records as the extant ones were from Rev. Craig.) James eventually moved to Rowan Co. (where he married Mary McConnell) and migrated with John's son William (who married Margaret McConnell) to Burke Co., NC, and thence to Buncombe Co. At this point, I have no clue as to who Phebe Davison was. But, from this abstract, I would gather that she was married to Thomas Moore in 1751, meaning she was probably born in the early 1730s. This would be many years earlier than any of the known children of Samuel. But it would be in line with the children of John. Yet we have no record or hint of a Phebe among his children.
