Hello Iredell Co. Roots List Members, I received an informative posting from the Rowan Co. list giving the route many of our ancestors took in migrating to N.C. (copied below). I would like to make contact with others on this list who may be related to or have knowledge of the CARRUTH family that traveled these paths from Lancaster, Pa. to where they settled in what is now southeast Iredell Co., N.C. There were three related families of the Carruth family that made this trip. They were Walter, Adam, and Jean (sister-in-law of Walter and Adam) Carruth. Walter and Adam were brothers and Jean was married to their brother Alexander who passed away while the families lived in Lancaster. All three brothers immigrated from Antrim, Co., Ireland shortly after their father died in 1728. They were of Scot/Irish descent and settled along Coddle Creek in the 1740-1750's. My ancestors are Adam Carruth and his son Robert Carruth who moved on to Ga. about 1793 with his family. I would appreciate hearing from others that know of the Carruth family. Best wishes to all, Harvey Carrouth Tallahassee, Fl. It crossed the Potomac River at Evan Watkins' Ferry, followed the narrow path across the backcountry to Winchester, through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia to Harrisonburg, Staunton, Lexington, and Roanoke. On it went into Salem, NC, and on to Salisbury, where it was joined by the east-west Catawba and Cherokee Indian Trading Path at the Trading Ford across the Yadkin River. On to Charlotte and Rock Hill, SC where it branched to take two routes, one to Augusta and another to Savannah, Georgia >>
