John Houpe married Sarah Gallaher in Iredell County Oct 10, 1805 according to family records. They lived in the vicinity of Bethany Presbyterian Church, and are buried there. Sarah was born in 1783. I am searching for the parents of Sarah Gallaher. The only early Gallaher Families I have found in the area are James and Hugh. From the will and estate papers of James, she does not appear to be his daughter. Could she be the daughter of Hugh? The earliest reference I have found to Hugh is a 1776 Rowan County marriage bond, and then another in 1778 to Sarah Campbell. He appears in land records on Coldwater Creek from 1778 to the early 1800s. In 1805, he buys land in Iredell which he sells in 1816. I can find no reference to him after 1816. Does anyone know what happened to him? Does anyone have a list of his children? According to Census records, it appears he did have children, with daughters of the correct age for one to be Sarah.
