Marriage bond: Margret King to William Doornal Feb. 14 1769 signed by Wm.=20 Milliken & Wm. Alexander. Justice Wm. Millican is present at Inferior Court in the first Inferior=20 Court of 1769. William Millican proves some deeds Feb. 15 1770 (men named Nation) King. A note from (?) says that Richard King landed in Philadelphia in 1728. His=20 wife died there leaving a baby girl, Anna. When Anna was 7 years old, her=20 father again married, April 7, 1735 to Margaret Berkelly of New Jersey. =20 They lived on the Raritan and had 10 children. Moved to Rowan Co. N.C.,=20 Withers Creek--near Thyatira--in 1756. Their son, Richard was scalped by=20 the Indians on Feb. 3 1760. Robert King married Mary Morrison in 1736 James King in 1737 married Sarah Hall--sister of Captains Hugh & James Hall)= =20 and lived on Snow Creek. Their son Samuel King married Cynthia=20 Winslow--daughter of Moses--in 1776. (see also Rumple=92s History of Rowan=20 Co. page 167 of new edition). Robert King=3D Rowan Committee Safety Oct. 17 1775, (Vol. X page 279 of N.C.= =20 Records.) as Freeholders or householders of Rowan. Mr. C.K. Hill of Harriman, Tenn. is trying to connect his side of the King=20 family with Robert King who was on the Safety Committee in Rowan 1774-6. =20 Mr. Hill is the son of Isaac A. Hill and wife, who was Margaret, the=20 daughter of John & Martha S. (Owens) Kendrick. Martha S. (Owens) Kendrick=20 was the daughter of Samuel Sumpter Owings or Owens, and his wife Sarah=20 (Randolph) Owens. Samuel Sumter Owens was the son of Edward Owens (died in=20 Roane Co. Tenn. in 1857) who married Elizabeth Sumpter (born in N.C. in=20 1762-3 and died in Rowan Co. Tenn) in N.C. in 1799. Mr. Hill thinks that=20 the parents of Edward Owens must have lived in Burke Co. N.C. and that=20 Elizabeth Sumpter=92s father William Sumpter, Capt. of a Company of Militia=20= in=20 Burke Co. N.C. (proved by a pension record of his son Thomas of Knox Co.=20 Tenn.) was born in Va. before 1741 and died in Burke co. N.C. about 1828. =20 Capt. William was a brother of General Thomas Sumter of S.C. and served as a= =20 J.P. in Burke Co. N.C. in 1787, where he lived until his death at over 80=20 years. Mr. Hill wants particularly to get proof of service to the state=20 prior to 1777, which would be in Rowan Co. Mr. Hill thinks that the parents of Edward Owens must have been in Rowan= ,=20 and rendered service, since his brother George Owens was in Rev. and moved=20 to Roane Co. Tenn. His sketch of the King famly, is Richard King of Rowan Co. N.C., who die= d=20 in 1779, whose wife was Margaret, and children: Thomas (married Dec. 23 1774= =20 to Mary Hall); Robert (Member of Committee of Safety); Andrew; John (married= =20 Rachel Young Dec. 30 1768); Ann; Elizabeth; Mary; Margret; daughter (maried=20 James Blythe & had son Richard Blythe); daughter (married Landsley and had=20 daughter margaret). The will of Richard King being adms by his sons: Robert= =20 & James King. All of the sons served in the Rev. War. The line Mr. Hill wants is: Catherine King (born Aug 28 1820 died Aug. 1= =20 1891) married to William Tarwater (born Aug. 20 died Aug 13 1903) on April=20 24 1845. Both of these died in Roane Co. Tenn. The daughter of William=20 King (born died about 1869) and Elizabeth Wilson (born Dec 20 1783 died= =20 Aug. 1 1858) who was Rea (Ray or Rhea?) both dying in Tenn. (Knox or=20 Jefferson Co.) Mr. Hill thinks that she was a daughter of Maj. Joseph=20 Wilson & his wife Sarah (dauaghter of Moses & Mary McConnel White of=20 Mecklenburg Co.) but has been unable to prove it. There may be an Usie King= =20 somewhere on the line. Mr. Hill has the Hill line straight, he says. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------Lidd= y=20 King to Thomies Jones Nov. 22 1808 signed Benjamin Edan.
