    2. Mary Russell
    3. I was asking on the list the other day about Jonas Lipe and a Harkey child that was bound out to him. John Harkey. This child was a nephew of one of Jonas Lipes wives. One wife was a Meisenheimer and the other a Hoover . Somewhere someone has a Meisenheimer or a Hoover lady that married a John Harkey sr. . I would certainly like to meet that person. I was asked by someone to start a LIPE list on rootsweb and I have done that today. I also have a list for the Harkey and Bost surnames . Anyone interested please contact me. 1. Samuel Ellis family
    2. User
    3. How wonderful that you have an Iredell list! I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone come here and post their information. My family, I'm told, has been a part of Iredell County and I'm hoping someone can help me with it. I'll just post what I have and then maybe we'll see from there: My g-g-g-g-g grandfather: Samuel ELLIS: Apparently Samuel had a Will (which I have not seen yet) dated 11 June 1798. It gives his wife's name as Mary. It lists his children as: Solomon, Joshua, Samuel Jr., Anne Summers, Kesiah Greenfield, James, Jephemiah, Cassandra Summers and Jemima Wilson. Exec. George Gaither, Wit: Eli Gaither and Basil R. Gaither. I do know know where Samuel Sr. comes from or what his wife's maiden name may be. The below abstract is interesting to me because I cannot figure out just how come this Joshua would do this, and even though it says "father" and "son" in this Will, I believe this James Ellis they're talking about may be his brother who may have been very young and Joshua was responsible for his care, as their father had died about a week or so earlier: An abstract of Wills for Rutherford Co., NC (I haven't seen this either) gives the folowing information; "Bk B: 91 Indenture between Joshua Ellis - Wim Franklin Whiteside, 26 Jan 1798, Jan. Ct. 1798. Joshua Ellis of Iredell Co., "have as a tender father' placed and bound son James Ellis unto Wm. Franklin Whiteside, sadler, of Rutherford Co., NC to learn sadlers trade...Wit: Abel Lewis and Drury Allen. My g-g-g-g grandfather: Joshua ELLIS: The Will of Joshua Ellis (haven't seen this), dated sg 26 Dec 1828, wife Ann (Annie), children Allen, Perry, Martha, Mary, and grandchildren; Thomas A. Johnston, son of Wm Johnston, James A (should be F)-son of Allen Ellis, Greenberry Ellis and Peter Claywell Ellis sons of Perry Ellis, Ex: John A. Marchinson and John Tomlinson Sr.; Wit; Alvin Summers and Perry Tomplinson. Iredell County, NC. orginial Wills FHL film #1571950. The Alvin Summers mentioned above may have some connection to Cassandra Ellis, Samuel's daughter who is listed as Cassandra Summers in his Will of 1798. My g-g-g grandfather: Allen ELLIS: Allen was born approx. 1796-1797 in Iredell Co., NC. At some point in time he married Laurana WEEKS. He may have been married in Iredell to someone before her, but I do not know at this time. They left Iredell County, unknown when, but I know he left Iredell and ended up in Cherokee Co., NC. 1840 Cherokee Co., NC #148/11 Elise, Allen; 5 males and 4 females 1850 Cherokee Co., NC #432 Ellis, Allen 53, Laurena 50, James F. 27, Theophilus 17, Jasper A. 13, Berton A. Weeks 20, Martha Weeks 15 and Thomas Burgess 64. 1860 Cherokee Co., NC I did not find Allen or Laurana so I do not know if they returned to Iredell Co. for a while, or what. 1870 Cherokee Co., NC; Shoal Creek Area #220 Ellis, Theopolis 39, Emmaline 36 and children; Ellis, Allen 77, a miller. Again, we find Allen, but no mention of Laurana. I have further information but it just continues in Cherokee County. I would like to know about the Ellis family in Iredell County and who all is connected, some ancestry maybe (would love this) and descendancy as well. Any, and all help would be more than appreciated. Thank you for your time. There are approximately 12 graves. Those marked are: Shaw, Buddy D. 1881 Shaw, Cenith E. Daughter of A.F. and M.E. Ireland B. July 11, 1894 D. Feb. 14, 1895 Shaw, Cornelia B. Dec. 4, 1880 D. Shaw, William D. 1846 " These are the only Shaw graves in this book. There is a Cool Springs Township in the county, with several cemeteries. In my experience, the comment about coming from England may or may not be accurate. I think it does infer that she came to Iredell Co. from elsewhere at a considerable distance. The sooner the stone was erected after her death, the greater the probability of its accuracy. Peden's book, Marylanders to Carolina, lists three persons named Shaw coming to NC or SC: Basil Shaw, John Shaw, and another John Shaw. This book, while very valuable, is in no respect a complete listing of Marylanders who came to Carolina. 1. Looking for CARRUTH family info.
    2. Hello Iredell Co. Roots List Members, I received an informative posting from the Rowan Co. list giving the route many of our ancestors took in migrating to N.C. (copied below). I would like to make contact with others on this list who may be related to or have knowledge of the CARRUTH family that traveled these paths from Lancaster, Pa. to where they settled in what is now southeast Iredell Co., N.C. There were three related families of the Carruth family that made this trip. They were Walter, Adam, and Jean (sister-in-law of Walter and Adam) Carruth. Walter and Adam were brothers and Jean was married to their brother Alexander who passed away while the families lived in Lancaster. All three brothers immigrated from Antrim, Co., Ireland shortly after their father died in 1728. They were of Scot/Irish descent and settled along Coddle Creek in the 1740-1750's. My ancestors are Adam Carruth and his son Robert Carruth who moved on to Ga. about 1793 with his family. I would appreciate hearing from others that know of the Carruth family. Best wishes to all, Harvey Carrouth Tallahassee, Fl. Harvey33@aol.com From: "Dan Michael Patterson" << Lancaster and Bethlehem, Pa through York to Gettysburg and into Western Maryland around what is now Hagerstown. It crossed the Potomac River at Evan Watkins' Ferry, followed the narrow path across the backcountry to Winchester, through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia to Harrisonburg, Staunton, Lexington, and Roanoke. On it went into Salem, NC, and on to Salisbury, where it was joined by the east-west Catawba and Cherokee Indian Trading Path at the Trading Ford across the Yadkin River. On to Charlotte and Rock Hill, SC where it branched to take two routes, one to Augusta and another to Savannah, Georgia >>

    1. MICHAEL CADET YOUNG DESCENDANTS
    2. Betty Bray
    3. Hi List, I am so delighted that someone started this list. THANKS!!! For over 40 years I have been researching the family of James Young who was in Jackson Co., Tn. early 1800s, perhaps late 1700s. I believe that James' mother may have been Native American, which makes it very difficult. I began to research ALL of the YOUNGs in Jackson Co., Tn. and discovered that they descend from Michael Cadet Young. Because there are several YOUNGs there at a very early date, I believe there must be a familial relationship. I found that Michael Cadet had a son James who sort of drops out of sight, and believe this may be the grandfather of my James in Jackson Co., Tn. I would really appreciate any information about any of these YOUNGs in Iredell Co., N.C. or middle Tn.-Ky. Will be most happy to share information with anyone about this family. Thanks Betty Young Bray
