Could the reply be posted to the Rootsweb group? I would be interested also. Thanks! Morrison's and McClellan's also went to Charleston County, SC., and settled in a town that they named McClellanville, SC. McClellanville is about 40 miles from Charleston. I believe a Bo Morrison was Mayor of Charleston at one time. I also have some ancestors that were there---Skippers. They all intermarried. I don't really have much on those lines, I mostly know about it. Joy Skipper Hinson Charleston, SC

Searching for the spouses names for the daughters of James and Nancy Stamper. James died during civil war on 9May1864 after serving only a few months. Nancy is found in the 1850, 1870 and 1880 Catawba census. She is found in Iredell on the 1860 census. In 1900 she is enumerated with her son-in-law Benjamin Gilleland, Jr. in Catawba Co. There are also possible connections to the Waggoner family. The girls were: Mary E. (b 1852) Margaret ( b 1854) Martha (b 1856)---married Avery Harwell 1879 Sarah J. (b 1857) Nancy L. (b 1863) Susannah (b 1865) Am grateful for any help with this family. This is such a wonderful list and I've really learned a lot from the contributions of others. Sherry
Searching for anything possible on R.A. Stamper. According to his death certificate he was born in Iredell Co, ca. 1859 and died 23Feb1917 and was widowed. His parents are listed as Ab & Polly Stamper, both born Iredell Co. The informant on the certificate is H.S. DOUGLAS and R.A. STAMPER is buried at Pleasant Hill Church (unmarked). Trying to connect him to other family members. Any information is greatly appreciated as this line is my brick wall. Sherry
Looking for information on Martha A. Alley (b ca 1846) married to James M. Stamper on 05Feb1874. Certificate of marriage carries also the name of Levi Vanderbarg and W.C. Mills, J.P. Had two children, Rufus A. Stamper (b1875) and Martha Jane Stamper(b1877). Would like to know the date of her death/burial location and names of her parents. Also any information on James Melmath Stamper/ he is buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Sherry
Trying to get a line on several families in Iredell during the 1840-1850 time frame. In the 1850 census there is a James Stamper (23) and Mary (60) listed. Trying to prove if he is the son of Hugh Stamper (d1841) in Iredell. Hugh's estate sale was administered by Peter Waggoner. Also according to the civil war pension application, the widow of L. Franklin Stamper was L.A. Waugh. She states she was his widow, remarried, and was widow once again by 1885. In the 1880 census she is married to J.M. Waugh and has seven children from ages one thru fifteen. Would like to try and connect these people. **Also** during the civil war, was there regional postings of a mortality list? Did local counties publish and distribute? Were there local papers that might have carried a listing of the deaths or the next of kin? Sherry
John Houpe married Sarah Gallaher in Iredell County Oct 10, 1805 according to family records. They lived in the vicinity of Bethany Presbyterian Church, and are buried there. Sarah was born in 1783. I am searching for the parents of Sarah Gallaher. The only early Gallaher Families I have found in the area are James and Hugh. From the will and estate papers of James, she does not appear to be his daughter. Could she be the daughter of Hugh? The earliest reference I have found to Hugh is a 1776 Rowan County marriage bond, and then another in 1778 to Sarah Campbell. He appears in land records on Coldwater Creek from 1778 to the early 1800s. In 1805, he buys land in Iredell which he sells in 1816. I can find no reference to him after 1816. Does anyone know what happened to him? Does anyone have a list of his children? According to Census records, it appears he did have children, with daughters of the correct age for one to be Sarah. Any help will be much appreciated. Ray Yount ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. On the web site for Augusta Co., VA, is a lot of information about the pioneers who stayed in that county on their way to Rowan/Iredell Co. and on. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vaaugust/ They have a project on-going to transcribe Lyman Chalkley's "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, 1745-1800" into electronic form for on-line access. The have completed a significnat part of this already. This text includes abstracts of order books and other legal and court documents. Further, the website has several maps, but most importantly it has a copy of a 1954 map of Beverly Manor which shows where all of the farms were, who was the original owner, year of purchase (could be year deed was recorded? - many were very late), size of plot. Note: Augusta Co., VA was formed from Orange County in 1745 so the earliest records are in Orange County. As an example of how useful these records can be let me describe my findings for my Davidson ancestors who lived in Augusta Co., VA, before migrating to Iredell County, NC, area in 1749. Davidson Data: (note: the Davidson families there did not add the 2nd "d" until after they left Virginia) from the map: John Davison 1738 785 acres Samuel Davison 1739 353 acres >From the Order book extracts: Order Book II, Page 490 28 Nov 1750 Saml. Davison, Saml. Lockhart, added to the tithables, own motion. Order Book III, p. 188 29 Aug 1751 William Morrison married the widow of John Davison Order Book IV, p. 142 25 Mar 1754 Road from Alexr Sayer's Mill to James Davison's, on Holdston's River, James Davis and James McCall, overseers. Judgements May 1755 Thomas Moore and Phebe, his wife, vs. Abraham Smith and Gabriel Pickens. -- Phebe, late Phebe Davison. "Phebe Davison, spinster.", Bond date 1751. Comment: Samuel and John Davison cannot be proven as related, yet their families stay very close together over several moves. These seem to be the only Davisons or Davidsons families in Beverly Manor through 1750. John Davison is known to have migrated to Iredell about 1748 and he and his son George did surveys in that year. He died there in 1749/50. We know that his wife re-married a William Morrison. The data above ostensibly proves that the John Davison in Beverly Manor was the same John Davison in Iredell. The above data is the first official recognition of that second marriage that I have found. Samuel is thought to have remained in Virginia until maybe as late as 1765. He migrated to either Rowan or Tryon Co., and from there to York Co., SC. James was his son, baptised at Tinkling Spring church in 1741, the first year that Rev. John Craig was serving there. (This implies that earlier family members born in Beverly Manor may not have baptismal records as the extant ones were from Rev. Craig.) James eventually moved to Rowan Co. (where he married Mary McConnell) and migrated with John's son William (who married Margaret McConnell) to Burke Co., NC, and thence to Buncombe Co. At this point, I have no clue as to who Phebe Davison was. But, from this abstract, I would gather that she was married to Thomas Moore in 1751, meaning she was probably born in the early 1730s. This would be many years earlier than any of the known children of Samuel. But it would be in line with the children of John. Yet we have no record or hint of a Phebe among his children. Would anyone on the list know of a source where I could obtain a map of Iredell, showing the different townships? Tracking my line through the census, I suddenly realize that a map of townships would be a tremendous help, especially for the mid 1800's Thanks Sherry (NC)
Part of the 1850 census for Iredell was found on the reel with Halifax county (this according to the Iredell County Tracks, Winter 1998 edition). The notation of this gives the HH and family members. But does not list a location within the county.....did they list locations such as P.O., school district, etc in 1850? The census copies that I have have been 'chopped' off at the top and can't tell if there is a district. Also where was the Barringer Township located within Iredell? Sherry (NC)
In the 1800 census, there was a William Shepherd and a Thomas Winkfield. William Shepherd was between the ages of 26 and 45 years old and he had two males, ages 16-26, and one male age 10-16 living in his hosehold. Does anyone have any connection to William? After the death of Richard Shepherd, his two minor children were living in the home of Thomas Wingfield, in Iredell Co. Was this Thomas Winkfield/Wingfield the grandfather to these Shepherd children? I would like to hear from anyone with possible links. Thanks, Marlene
Would anyone on the list have any connections to Wagner/Waggoner that many have lived in Iredell around 1840? Also checking for surname Copelin found in Iredell ca 1800 in the Rocky Creek area Thanks Sherry
Trying to find out if anyone has any information on George Campbell (b1787)and his wife Elizabeth (b1790). They are both listed in the 1850 census for Iredell. In the 1860 census Elizabeth is listed as age 70 [HOH] with Melissa (14), Minverva(11) and also living in her household is Catherine Stamper and her family. Would like to determine what the connection is between these two families. Sherry
