Hello All! The following information was received by me from another List Owner. Please read and exercise caution. Some of you may already be aware of the most recent "Melissa" Virus, but I feel compelled to get this information out to everyone. If you receive an e-mail message with the subject: "Important Message From ..." Do NOT open it, and DELETE it immediately. The message contains a Microsoft Word file attachment, which contains a dangerous macro "worm" (similar to a virus). If you open this file, the macro will send multiple copies of the file and worm to many other users, hence causing it to spread extremely rapidly. It will also infect your machine with a version of itself that will be present in any new Microsoft Word documents you create. This is not a hoax. This worm is also infecting other sites around the world. See the last section of this message for further technical details. 1. This comes from a credible source. See link down below. 2. This does NOT mean the lists are getting infected. 3. It is said that the eMail message with the subject noted has an attached file. Don't even open the message, just delete it. Opening the email message WILL NOT spread the virus. Opening the attached Word file WILL spread the virus. However, the advice is to just delete the email message itself, sound advice. Some people will open the email, then be tempted to open the Word file just to see what happens (sort of like the apple in the Garden of Eden). Don't tempt fate, delete the email message. 4. You'll see that CNet, below, has information on this. FURTHER TECHNICAL DETAILS A worm replicates itself by trying to send multiple copies of itself to other recipients, who, in turn, execute the worm and do the same. This particular worm is in the form of a Microsoft Word macro. An unsuspecting user receives a message with an attached Word document that contains the macro. If the user opens the document and allows the macro to execute (either by having disabled this protection in MS Word, or by confirming on a dialog box), the macro will execute and propagate itself. This macro also modifies your default document template to cause all new documents that you write to contain the worm. If you later send someone one of these documents, the recipient could start the propagation again, using your document as the base. HOW TO FIND OUT MORE C/Net's news.com has a story on this virus/worm: http://www.news.com/News/Item/0,4,34334,00.html?st.ne.fd.gif.e Let me know if you have any contact with this virus. Many thanks. To Peggy Parish According to the Brawley Family by Doris Chandler and John Karriker Laura Ann Brawley, born 11 Apr 1950 and died 20 Jun 1933 married P. Lee Carter of Iredell Co. 23 Dec 1875 he died at the age of 28. they had a daughter. she then married Frank G. Mills and had 2 sons. Daughter must have been Cora E. Brawley Carter married first a Day and second Lewis Boyd Moore - children are Iva Day, Grace Day, Nora Moore, Harry Moore and Ruth Moore. This biographical material does not mention any sons except Floyd and Oren. Can we presume you have searched the 1900 census for Claude? Have you searched for the obituary for Laura Ann so see if it mentiones her children by name? I'm looking for any information on The "ORTON HOTEL". I have several pictures of the hotel. From the looks of the people in the photos, they may have been taken about 1885 to 1915. My dad died in 1972, he said that the hotel was located in NC. The Ortons were from Rowan and Iredell County, NC. For a copy of the Hotel, send me a e-mail at borton@liveh2o.com Any information on The "ORTON HOTEL" will be appreciated. Bill Orton Chattanooga, TN

One of my 'brick walls' is John Franklin MOORE, b. Aug 13, 1822, VA(?). He was one of my GGGFs. He lived most of his adult life in Iredell Co, NC, where he helped establish Mooresville, & which was named for him. He died on July 26, 1877. About the only thing I know about John Franklin's family is that he had a brother, James H. MOORE, who sold John Franklin more than 500 acres in about 1845. John Franklin MOORE's wife was Elizabeth Rachel SUMMEROW(1818-1900). Ring any bells? I have lots of descendant info which I'll be happy to share, but "Desperately Seeking MY John Franklin MOORE's Ancestors". Would also appreciate any help on Elizabeth Rachel SUMMEROW. Thanks- Lee Harvell Clinton, MD (301)868-6545
I too would like to find a source to early TN marriages also. Ellie
Hello, I understand that the Iredell court house burned in 1854 -- so I wonder, does anyone know if any marriage records from earlier than 1854 survived? Are there any published books of marriage records? How about books published on cemetery records? I am hoping to locate the following marriage date and cemetery records. Would anyone have *easy* access to published sources that could be *easily* checked for me? I don't want anyone to make a special trip somewhere -- but thought I'd pose the question. Need Iredell marriage date of Cyrus HUTCHI(N)SON to Elizabeth TORRENTINE sometime before 1812 (possibly 1808 - 1812). Need Iredell cemetery information on: Robert and Mary TORRENTINE (Robert died before 1818, possibly as early as 1793 and Mary died after 1818) Elizabeth (Torrentine) HUTCHI(N)SON died 1840 or 1848. Any clues? I am happy to share info. on what I have on these families. Thanks! Sara M. Bettencourt Houston, TX
Virtue/Liberty/and Independence. These words appear over a shield > depicting a horse on each side, an eagle above and what appears to be > a ship, a plow, and sheaves of grain within the shield. Can anyone help me figure out what this means or direct me to a page which can translate it for me or tell me the origins.? Peggy Braly Parish
I am putting together as much information as I can for a book on the family of William Jolly. William lived at Rowan Co., then Iredell after it was formed. Some members of this family were also in Alexander Co. I am seeking information on any and all of the following children: Allen Jolly, born 1786 Elizabeth Jolly, born 1793 William Jolly, born 1795 John Jolly, born 1797 Hiram Jolly, born 1799 Joseph Jolly, born 1803 Abner Jolly, born 1806 Solomon, date unknown At least part of this family left NC and went to TN--counties of Jefferson, Smith, Meigs, and Grainger. There were quite a few intermarriages with the Allens of NC. If anyone has any leads, please contact me. Thanks, Marlene
