The Coddle Creek Cemetery Survey lists a George Torrence (d. 24 July 1843) and Mrs. George Torrence (Margaret A.) (d. Oct. 31, 1831). Is this the George Torrence who was the father of the Margaret Torrence who married Benjamin Franklin Young? (Benjamin and Margaret are buried at Coddle Creek Cemetery as well.) I'm also looking information on Mary Ida Torrence, who married Benjamin and Margaret's grandson, George Monroe Young. Anyone familiar with this family? Stan Young syoung@pecanpi.atl.ga.us

Does anyone have access either to the primary source - a Rowan >county marriages register - or another good compilation that might give the >date, and could they please share their data with me. The second date (13 Jan 1784) coincides with the IGI, which is normally based on a primary source. However, to get a better handle on the date, you might want to try Jo White Linn's compilation of Rowan County marriages and marriage bonds for this period. It should be available through inter-library loan ... or maybe some kind soul on the List who has it can do a look-up for you. NJ Arvay
Does anyone on the list have information for a Campbell family found in the 1850 census of Iredell? George Campbell (63) Miller Elizabeth (60) Nancy Coble (23)...know she married James Stamper _____Campbell (m) (26)..name unreadable..could start with "L" or "S" or "J" Jane Campbell (23) Would really appreciate any help on getting a handle on this family. Thanks to all. Sherry
I have been doing some research on the family of George Davidson, Jr., of Iredell Co., NC. George was the son of Col. George Davidson and Catherine Penelope Reese and was born in 1757 in Rowan County. He married a Rosanna Falls, d/o William Gilbreath Falls and Isabella Kerr. She was born about 1765. I have found three conflicting dates for their marriage: several secondary references give a date in 1794; others give 13 Jan 1784; and a reference on the OBCGS site give a date from the Duncanson Collection of 13 Jan 1781 in Rowan County. The last seems to be based on a lookup from a primary source. Does anyone have access either to the primary source - a Rowan county marriages register - or another good compilation that might give the date, and could they please share their data with me. Further, George died in 1813 and there were distributions through 1823. Rosanna (Falls) Davidson died in 1832 or 1834. Does anyone have access to Will or estate abstracts for these people? Or indices so that I might find these Wills? I have references that mention their existence. Those references say they are in Iredell County, but I have also seen possible references in either Maury or Giles Counties in Tennessee. And if anyone has data or stories on this family, I would be interested. thanks, john.
This is the top four generations of my McEwen Family. Does anyone recognize this family? I am trying to fill in personal information: dates of birth, death, marriage and locations of same. Would someone who has the Centre Presbyterian Cemetery, Mt. Mourne, and 4th Creek Cemetery, Statesville listings be willing to do a look-up? I am looking for a Sarah Alexander who died in the early 1790s. In her will, she names several cousins, Jane Brevard (married Ephraim Davidson?) and Margaret Torrence (daughter of Adam and Ann Torrence?) that I know are buried there. She also mentions a cousin Rebecca Erving (Ewing?) (most likely Rebecca Osborne, wife of Nathaniel Ewing, both buried in Fourth Creek Cemetery), and a brother Alexander Gillespie which she appears to have lost track of. I would like to know Sarah Alexander's birth and death dates, whether married/name of husband, and the names of those buried near her. Thanks in advance, Ray Yount ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Looking for information on Agness Stevenson, md. William Locklin in Rowan Co., NC. I believe the date of their marriage was 1769. I am trying to connect William Locklin to Samuel W. Locklin. I think William may have been the father of Samuel, born abt. 1770. Samuel married Celia Zachary/Zachry. I don't know where he (Sam) was born, Celia was born in VA. They (Sam & Celia) both died in Walton Co., GA. My main line of interest is LOCKLIN, but have been adding all related lines as I find them. Does anyone have any information or ever seen this marriage and children from this marriage? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sarah Locklin Taylor Sandston, Henrico Co., VA (formerly of Thorndale, Milam Co., TX)

Sarah Alexander left a will in Iredell County 30 Dec. 1790 naming brother Alexander Gillespie ("if alive or ever comes in search of"). Also named were her cousins Jane Brevard, Sr., Rebecca Erving, and Margaret Torrence. Adlai Osborne was executor, and witnesses were Margaret Beard and Joseph Latta, Jurat. Does anyone know how these people are all inter-connected? Is the Jane Brevard, Sr. the Jane McWhorter who married John Brevard? Is this Sarah Alexander related to the Sarah Alexander which JosephGillespie names as a niece in his 1791 will in Mecklenburg County? The Alexander, Gillesespie, McWhorter, and Brevard families came from the Cecil County, MD/Chester County, PA area and settled on the headwaters of Rocky River near the Iredell/Mecklenburg County line (reference: "Carolina Cradle"). Any information will be appreciated. Ray Yount ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. The following obituary was recently in the paper. As you can see, there is no mention of who this person's parents were, where he was born, when he was born, who his wife and/or children were. If anyone can shed any light on this it will be appreciated. I would like to ascertain if he is a member of my Dagenhart family line. Thanks Barney STONY POINT - John H. Seeking anyone researching Uriah Davis, born in Wales, who apparently got in trouble with English authorities and was sentenced in February of 1732 to be transported from Middlesex, England to Annapolis or Baltimore, Maryland. He is said to have been sent on the PATAPSCOE or PATAPSCO merchant ship, which left England in April of 1732 and arrived in Annapolis in October of 1732 (don't know if it came straight to USA or not). In August of 1740 he was tried for "begatting a child on the body of Mary Watkins". This was in Baltimore, Maryland. His will was written on Oct. 31, 1767 and names his land as Uriah's Abode and Uriah's Addition. It was proven on Feb. 1, 1768, in Baltimore, so he died apparently in January of 1768. His wife is listed as Margaret, she later married a John Brown (by 1770). His child with Mary Watkins may have been his daughter Susannah. children listed in Will include: 1. Solomon 2. William 3 Uriah 4 Diana 5 Shadrack 6. Meshack 7 Abednego 8. Mara or Maria 9. Rachel 10. Susanna or Susannah 11. Joshaway (or Joshua). Joshua (as I think his name actually was) was the youngest child. His sons apparently went to North Carolina, to Buncombe, Rowan, Wilkes, Iredell (later Alexander) and maybe other neighboring counties. I suspect that Joshua Davis, born 1762 in Baltimore, Maryland is the same as Joshaway. Joshua was a Revolutionary War soldier and served from Rowan County. His wife was Martha Harrison. His pension application indicates that he lived in Iredell County and was in Rowan County as early as 1780. I'm seeking anything on this line. Joshua is my great x 3 grandpa and later moved to Claiborne County, TN, where he died. I have a webpage with more information at: http://www.atlascomm.net/ecdavis/davisgen.htm Eddie Davis ecdavis@atlascomm.net His Genealogy page: http://www.atlascomm.net/ecdavis/default.htm (Links to Davis, Vaughan, Price, Johnson, McDonald, Myers and other family lines from this page.)
I have an ancestor, Reuben Dockins, who was born in Iredell Co. on April 05, 1792. I know he migrated to Tennessee, but can find no trace of him or his family in NC. Does anyone have any information on the Dockins family? This is going to be a very long shot. Iredell records of early marriages between 1790-1819, performed by John Huggins, list the marriage of Powell STAMPER to Mary COPELIN. In the 1830 census, Mary is seen as HOH with 1 male under 5, 1 female under 5, and one female 15-20. I know that the male was probably James B. STAMPER, but thought there might be some listing of marriages for around 1835 - 1855 that might give me a clue as to the names of the daughter. See, I told you this was a long shot. But as always, this list has a wealth of knowledge. Sherry (NC)
