I live in SC and was able to locate death certificates from 1932-1952 at the archives in Columbia, for any death after 1952 I had to request it from the Bureau of Vital Records. I am not sure of the time frame in NC. Usually on the death certificate it states where the person is buried. That is how I found my grandfather that died before I was born is buried about 10 miles from Mt. Olive, NC in a family cemetery.
