    1. [NC-Cemeteries] Nicholas FRY & Anna Maria BOHRER married abt 1780
    2. Deborah Jaquiss
    3. The Bohrer, Borah, Borer Book states that Nicholas FRY & Anna Maria BOHRER (born abt 1761- parents: Abraham & Anna Marie nee unknown ) married abt 1780 and went to live in the Carolinas. Nothing further is known about them. Did they have children? Abraham & Anna Marie Bohrer's (of Frederick Co, VA & Frederick Co, MD) children: John Peter Bohrer 1743 of Frederick Co, MD John Heinrich (Henry) Bohrer 1755 Frederick Co, MD John Adam Bohrer 1758 of Berkeley Co, VA ?Eva Margaret? Bohrer 1758? John George Bohrer 1759 of the part of Frederick Co, MD that became Washington Co, MD Anna Maria Bohrer 1761 A lot is known about John Peter Bohrer and John Adam Bohrer and we believe that John Heinrich (Henry) Bohrer died young without issue. Eva Margaret Bohrer is not well documented and we are not sure she was their daughter. John George married Rosanna unknown and they had at least six and probably eight children and at least thirty grandchildren but no descendants are at present known. Anna Maria Bohrer & her husband Nicholas purportedly went to the Carolinas but what then? Does SKS have any information about any of these Bohrer's or other suggestions of where to research? John Peter Bohrer was Anna Maria Bohrer's brother. John Peter Bohrer is a documented DAR Revolutionary War Patriot. John Peter Bohrer married 31 Jan 1768 Maria Magdelena (Mary) Schenkmayer in the Evangelical Reformed Church Frederick, Co, MD. So possibly Anna Maria was married there as well? 1. [NC-Cemeteries] Elizabeth Lail
    2. I can't believe I forgot to put dates etc. in my last posting, good grief! This is the story as well as I know it. My Lail ancestors had land in Rowan County, NC. My 5xGgrandfather left NC to settle in Kentucky (still part of Virginia back then). In June of 1780 my 5xGGrandfather Henry Lail was living in Virginia/Kentucky at a frontier fort called Ruddles' Station. The fort was attacked by a group of British soldiers and a band of their Shawnee indian allies. Some of the settlers from the fort were taken prisoner by the British, but the rest were either taken captive or killed by the indians. Henry Lail was one of the ones taken by the indians along with his brother and nephews. While in captivity, he married a Shawnee woman. When they married she became a Christian and took the name Elizabeth Lail. When Henry was released by the indians he and his new wife moved back to North Carolina. They had 6 children: Mary, Elizabeth, Catherine, George, Jane, and John. I'm descended from George Lail. Henry and Elizabeth's daughter (also named Elizabeth) married a John White of Alexander County. My understanding is that many of the White descendants still live in Alexander County today. Many of the White's intermarried with the Pennel family in that area also. Henry Lail ran into some legal trouble around 1806 and posted his land as bail for himself and some of his friends. His "friends" skipped town and rather than forfeit his land, Henry sold it before the courts took it, and left the area also. This is where we lose track of his wife. We've tracked Henry from NC through Tennesee to Arkansas. He took sons George and John with him, so we could track the whole group as they moved West. There is no mention of Henry's wife Elizabeth after he leaves NC. We're not sure if she died, or if he left her behind when he ran from the law. There are conflicting family legends of what became of her. Some branches of the family thought she may have moved in with her daughter's family the White's. There was a long time assumption that she was buried in the small private White family cemetery near Taylorsville. Very recently, a newly located descendant of this branch of the family came forward with additional information. This family member is the one who indicated that the local Indian community in Alexander County knew a lot about Elizabeth including that her name in Shawnee was Me-Shekin   Ta- Withe and that her and Henry's story was "well known" among the local indians in Alexander County. This family member is also the one who also provided the cemetery information. If any of this rings a bell, I'd really appreciate any information you might have. Thanks, Ken Weber Columbia, MO

    1. [NC-Cemeteries] Need Help w/ Native Americans and Cemeteries in Alexander Co.
    2. Hi I'm trying to locate the cemetery where my 5xGreat Grandmother is buried. She was a Shawnee. When she married my 5xGreat Grandfather Henry Lail (spellings of last name vary widely i.e. Lael, Lagle, Lale, Layle etc.) she converted to Chritianity and took the name Elizabeth. We originally thought she might have been buried with her daughter (Elizabeth Lail White) in the White Family Cemetery near Taylorsville. However, I recently was given additional information as follows: Elizabeth Lail's given name in Shawnee was Me-Shekin Ta- Withe (Ma- Sha- Kin Tawith- e) "Painted Dove" in Shawnee. She is supposedly buried in a private cemetery in Alexander Co., NC. The person who relayed this information to me was not sure of the name or location of the cemetery, only that it is not the White Family Cemetery. They believe the cemetery is however, on a list of cemeteries protected under NC state law. According to my source, Elizabeth's grave has one of the largest markers in this cemetery. Evidently the story of her marriage to Henry Lail and their live together are supposed to be well known information to members of the Shawnee tribe in Alexander County. I'd appreciate any help from members of the tribe if they could pass along any information or oral history. I'd like to learn more about my Shawnee ancestry. My general questions for the list are: 1. Is anyone aware of this specific individual and her gravesite or other history? 2. Is anyone aware of any private "protected" cemeteries in Alexander County, especially in the Taylorsville area and also especially containing native americans. 3. Would anyone who is aware of such a cemetery be willing to check for Elizabeth Me Shekin Ta Withe Lail's tombstone and photograph it for me. Thanks to anyone who can be of any help. Ken Weber

    3. Does anyone know if the cemetery at Hermon Methodist Church on Old Rt. 158, Vance Co NC (between Oxford and Henderson) has been researched? A lot of my ancestors are buried there, including my grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, parents and siblings. Information from these tombstones would be most helpful in my genealogical research.
