For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Paul, You might want to try writing to the office of the Cemetery. They would probably be able to give you copies of some of their documents on his burial. They at least would be able to give you his plot location, and possibly a map if they have them. For a picture of the marker, you may want to try websites like headstone hunters http://headstonehunter.com/index.html or Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness http://www.raogk.org/ for volunteers who go to places in their areas. I've used RAOGK and have had some success with it. Good luck. Dear List Members, It is that time of year when some of you will be leaving on Vacations. You might want to consider unsubscribing from the list while you are gone and then resubscribing when you return. The easiest way to do this is by using Password Central. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive a e-mail list of all Rootsweb Mailing Lists you belong to. You can unsubscribe using this e-mail. Save it and you then have a list of mailing lists you want to re-subscribe to. When you return, you can check the Archives for this list at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ Just type in the name of the list and you can check the messages for the dates you were gone. The following was shared with me and I think it is one of the best Maps I have seen showing the growth and history of the United States. http://www.animatedatlas.com/movie.html I appreciate each of you and know that it is because of you our list is the success it is. I highly recommend that, if at all possible, you visit family graves at least once a year, especially if the cemetery is older and rural, just to be sure that everything's still there and in readable condition. I have graves at two older, rural cemeteries, both of which are in the same town, about 2 hours from me each way. I can manage a short visit a few times a year, but I run into problems trying to swing a long enough visit at least once a year to do some lengthy tombstone cleaning. The lichen has gotten *very* bad since the relative who had been taking care of the stones died in the mid-1990s. (Some of the stones are soft limestone--any recommendations?)
