    1. [NC Cemeteries] From the List Owner
    2. David E. Cann
    3. Hello folks, and welcome back to RootsWeb's newly upgraded list system. If you are receiving this post it is because you are still a subscriber to this list, even though things have been pretty quiet due to a number of issues lately. The lists are back now, and I believe you will like the improvements that have been made. The most obvious improvement is a new RootsWeb login system, which you will find at the following link: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail Only one account per person is needed, and once you have created it you will be able to organize and manage all of your list subscriptions in one handy location. Like anything new there will be something of a learning curve in the beginning, but I really think you will like it for the new security and personalization features for your list subscriptions. And last but not least, please note my email address as List Owner immediately below this message and following my name. Also note the "List information" link below that, which will take you to the information page for this list, where you will find information to help you subscribe, unsubscribe, and some other things based on the current status of your new log in account. I welcome you back to the list, and look forward to working with you in the future tracking down our elusive ancestors. David E. Cann nc-cemeteries-owner@rootsweb.com List Owner of the North Carolina Cemeteries mailing list on RootsWeb List information: https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/postorius/lists/nc-cemeteries.rootsweb.c om/

Author: jaydebhayes Surnames: thompson; fields; lambert; mounce Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.cemetery.us.nc/75.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: jim; my gg gf was elisha f thompson, death cert says folks are elizabeth fields and william thompson, and was born in cherokee, nc. from what my grandmother had gleaned from elisha, he was 3/4 cherokee, and remembered indian children coming into his home at night to just look around. he was born 1829 per his death cert; he also had said he was in the confederate army with his brother, and one of them was a drummer, and one was a fifer; oddly enough, in later years, he had 2 dogs, named FIFE and DRUM! he also had a first family that was raised, when he became involved with my gg gm lucreasa jane lambert. she had been orphaned early on, and she went to stay with one family, and her brother with another family. i found her in the 1860 census living in murphy nc with a r g mounce family, who was a merchant, and she was a laborer. from what i have found online, i believe her mother was also named lucreasa mounce, and married a lambert. i found them in tn, and oddly enough, the mother had a baby, and died shortly thereafter...that would leave poor mr lambert widowed and with 2 small children to raise. i really do not know what happened to lucreasa's brother, but she thought that someone had said the family he lived with and he went out west for gold and was never heard from again. now i digress, and get back to where elisha and lucreasa get together----(and i say that because i could never find prrof of their marriage, or the death of his wife, or her death). they did h! ave a baby, betty, in north carolina. then one night elisha came home and told gg lucreasa, they had to leave, and they packed all they could into a quilt and took off for kentucky and ended up on adair co, ky. he had told stories that gm lucreasa and the baby rode on their cow, and he walked. we do not know why they fled their home, but that the "law" did come into ky to look for them, but they hid out and finally the law left. my father always thought it was perhaps war related; or perhaps his first wife's family was mad over his taking up with another woman. anyway, if any of this sounds remotely familiar, or you know any of this, would like to share what you have to offer. thanks so much! debbie troxell hayes Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: nichols340 Surnames: Nichols Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.cemetery.us.nc/1000/mb.ashx Message Board Post: While I show several ancestors as having been buried in this cemetery, I haven't been able to locate it. Looking at the Stanley County on-line photo database, I was excited to come across the photo of Poplar Springs Cemetery. Its description says it is East Side of SR 1933, .4 Miles Northwest of Jct. with SR 1933 and SR 1934, Cottonville vicinity, Circa 1875. Looking at the map, this doesn't make sense to me. Does anyone know if it still exists? The closest on I have seen in this vicinity is Mt Zion UMC Cemetery and I believe that's not the same. http://stanly.pastperfect-online.com/32402cgi/mweb.exe?request=record;id=7A1AEB8A-1C1F-4CAC-8FA8-834665418814;type=102 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
