Not for profit or gain...I would like to find out for my husband and for my kids what if any Cherokee blood they have....the story and some census records go back to Randolph County WV...there was some kind of battle...an infant of the Cherokee tribe was hidden by the mother...the infant was found and adopted by the white family who found him...it is his granddaughter that my husband descends from...what kind of proof would there be of this?...how do I find it?...the surname of the adoptive family was McCauley and the supposed child's name is found in the 1860 census for that area...infact there is a jr and sr with this name...so possibly he gave his name to adoptive son...just a thought and would appreciated any help...
