I was recently contacted by a woman who knew the parents of one of my many times grandmothers, Rebecca Deter. Rebecca was born in Maryland (possibly Washington Co) in 1811 and married Jacob Hossinger in Richland Co, OH. Family history states that Rebecca was part American Indian. My wonderful contact was able to tell me that Rebecca's parents were Philip Deter (Teeter) and Elizabeth. She was also able to tell me that Philip was identified as the husband of Elizabeth in a MD deed relating to Elizabeth's father, Martin Bellwise. She had not been able to read the actual document and felt that Bellwise is not the correct spelling of Martin's last name. Please help me play the name game - my imagination has come up with Martin Bell Wise. And isn't going any farther! Any suggestions as to how the name may be transcribed incorrectly are more than welcome. None of the search engines I have tried have turned up anyone named Bellwise and soundex doesn't turn up any variation that is plausible. Is anyone aware of a relationship between the Deter/Teeter family and any of the southeastern tribes? Annette in PA netandmike@nni.com

I am posting this because I do not know if jasonc@herbalife.com recieved it after I forwared it to him. Helen I'm posting this for someone not subscribed to the list, so anyone with information please contact Joan Gaffney(TBirdGal57@aol.com) directly. She is looking for connections to CORDERY on the Easten Shore to the same family in New Jersey. Ralph Willing willingrvw@aol.com While looking for your HORNERs, I discovered some CORDERYs in the same area with your HORNERs (Wicomico Co.). I have yet to connect to MD, though. So far in my research, ours are still in NJ. I have gotten back to Joseph CORDERY (can't find who his parents were), who married Mahala CONOVER, b. abt. 1807, d. Oct. 7, 1890. I haven't been able to find anything before their marriage on Dec. 25, 1839. They had three children. Mahala had been married before to John Smith and they were married on Jan. 10, 1825. There were three children from that marriage. > >==== LOWER-DELMARVA-ROOTS Mailing List ==== > Have you seen Somerset County's USGenWeb site? > http://www.rootsweb.com/~mdsomers/somerset.htm >Preserve Our Heritage - Contribute Data to the USGenWeb Project! > > > > > > >
Good morning all, I received this from another list and wanted to forward it in case someone may recognize something. I have invited this person to join hope they will. I am encouraged, to start finding others with a Tuckahoe history. We are not alone. Marilee, Good to hear from another Tuckahoe decedent. I can not tell you much, but you are not alone. I have came across several people with this oral family history. I have started a E-mail Tuckahoe group and we are trying to compile our information. You can join the list from my homepage. Use the link below and just click on the gourd at top of page. I hope you will join us, I believe our ancestors want this us to know who they were. And in my research the only way this is going to be done is by compiling our oral family history to solve this puzzle. Please join us. Anyone with the oral family history of Tuckahoe or Tuckyhoe please help us out. My line is said to be Cherokee Tuckahoe. I was just informed this evening by a mail list I belong to that I had contracted a Happy.99 Virus which apparently came attached to a GEDCOM file. They sent me a cleaning device address, which I downloaded to a disk in much less time than is stated on the program. It runs itself and lets you know who you have "infected". The mail list told me I should also empty my recycle bin. They were very helpful, and said no one seems to know they're sending it, because it is a "worm" which attaches itself to files. It does not affect your hard drive, but invades e-mail and internet privacy. Here is the address to which they sent me for the free download. http://www.delta4.net/other/happy99.html I also looked up the virus in an internet search and received instructions on how to delete it manually. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Searching for information on Sophia Wales, b. 1818 in Maryland, married George Downing, Dec. 26, 1833, Columbus, Bartholomew Co. Co., Indiana, died Feb. 3, 1897 (Fannin Co., TX?) She reportedly said she was "half Irish, half Tuckahoe Indian". The only info I have located states that Tuckahoe was not a tribe, but part of the Algonquin nation. Anyone know anything about the "Tuckahoe"? Several of us around the country are looking for more information on Sophia (my gg grandmother). Thanks in advance for any help. Marilee Barnett
I need some help identifying my Native American ancestors. The oldest one I have is David McCoy, b. abt. 1800 in VA. m. Ann Donaldson. David left VA. for OH. and IL. abt. 1830. Can someone tell me if there may have been McCoy Native American's in VA. in the late 1700's and early 1800's? Any help would be great. Is there a book or other documentation? Thanks so much, Judy
Hello Doug: Please send me more information on your American Indians; do you know what tribe they belonged to, etc? If I had more information, I could keep a watch out for them when I'm searching my Indians. Did they move west or stay in the eastern part of America? What were their English names and where did they settle? My American Indian ancestors were also from VA (3rd gr-grandparents); although I don't know the county in VA, or their Indian names, or the Indian tribes they belonged to, this is what I know about them: William Scott, b 1785, VA; d 1860, Delaware Co, IN; m 1820, Greene Co, OH to Martha O. Denton. He served in the War of 1812 (possibly from VA or OH); bought land and settled in Delaware Co, IN in 1836. He was a farmer. I need his parentage and siblings. Martha O. Denton, b abt 1800, VA; I need her parentage and siblings. Children of William and Martha O. (Denton) Scott: 1. Mariah Phoebe Scott, b abt 1822, PA; d 1889, Wabash Co, IN; m 1841, Ross Co, OH to Silas Jones (b abt 1818, DE - d 1882, Wabash Co, IN). Children of Silas and Mariah (half-blooded American Indians): Robert Jones, m Lettie A. Dowell; Rebecca J. Jones; John M. Jones; Mary E. Jones; William Jones; Benjamin Jones; Sarah Catherine (Cass) Jones, m Bradshaw Mohn/Mohr; Harriet Jones, m Jesse Rhinearson; Margaret Jones; and lastly, my gr-grandparents: Martha Priscilla Jones (b 1861, Andrews, Huntington, N - d 1936, Easthaven, Wayne, IN); m 1879, Huntington Co, IN to Curtis Calhoun Wintrode (b 1851, Huntington Co, IN - d 1921, Huntington Co, IN). 2. Benjamin Scott, b abt 1825, OH. 3. James W. Scott, b abt 1830, OH. 4. Priscilla Scott, b abt 1834, OH. 5. Sarah Scott, b abt 1840, IN. If you have encountered any of these people in your research, please e-mail me. Thanks!
