Hello List, I am looking for anyone on the list who might have ancestors who are from the Pamilico or Bear River Tribes in what are now called Craven and Pamlico Counties, in North Carolina. Historians and antropologists claim that there are no longer any pure blood Pamlico or Bear River People left. They were absorbed into the Tuscarora and surrounding tribes in North Carolina and Southern Virginia. This might be true. I am of Pamlico descent and I would like to hear from anyone who may be also. There is a good chance that someone in the tribes along the VA/NC border may be on this List and have information.. I would also welcome accurate history. Regards, Two Waters
The Saponi helped Spotswood. The Saponi consisted of the Occaneechi, Tutelo and other remnant groups. They also resided at Fort Christianna. If I'm not mistaken, one of the Indians who served as a guide was called Indian Hascoll. He was an Occaneechi Indian. Hi Doug! Among your people, are there traditions of helping Alexander Spotswood in the legendary trek across the Blue Ridge Mountains? I have tried for years to document the tribal origin of a group of scouts who aided Spotswood. I suspect they came from Fort Christanna and there is a bit of evidence they were Meherrin. Any guidance you could give would be appreciated. Best wishes, Pat Elder "I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it." Hello List, I am looking for a lost ancestor and his family. John Conner was born in North Carolina on Feb. 1st, 1802. I have been unable to find anything on his parents or his wife. His wife is listed as "unknown Indian". John and his wife had three children, Alcy, Penny, and John. They were all listed on the Jones Co. North Carolina census in 1850. The majority of my ancestors are Tuscarora, Pamlico, and Bear River People. However, the name Alcy was found with the Cherokee and Creek. If John's wife had been Tuscarora, we would have had some family record. So, I'm stuck. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be very much appreciated. Regards, Two Waters

Only that a genealogy book (and I know sometimes those are not accurate) said that Elias Sanders was thought to have been born in Maryland. Another branch of our tree said their side of the family was always told he was born in North Carolina. I use both as a reference just in case. I plan on checking the 1880 census to see what his immediate children said his state of birth would have been. His father was said to be British but I don't even count on that at this point. Hi List, I'm back again. Just got some infor and need some help researching it and as I know that this list is full of very helpful and knowledgeable people, here I am. I have just received a copy of a newspaper article written in 1923, about how my ancestor, Elias Sanders was from the Plumer Indian Tribe. The article says that the indian tribe was extinct by 1923. There are letters written to and from a Congressman Brand (who I believe was a Congressman for Hartwell, Georgia) and the Office of Indian Affairs about my ancestor's descendants and their claim of the govt taking away some or all of their land. I am waiting for the film of this as the copy that was sent to me was not very clear. Of course I want to find out all that I can about this. There has been so much speculation on my family having indian blood and since this is the first so called "evidence", I would like to find out all that I can. Problem. I don't know where to start. Someone suggested BIA, someone else said I might could find the letter's to the Congressman on file somewhere. I am open to any and all suggestions. I know (at least I've not found anything) we are not on any rolls as my family was living as whites. From tradition, Elias father was some type of European and his mother is said to be 1/2 Cherokee, 1/2 Shawnee. We've all heard stories about how he might have lived with his mother's family and lived in both lifestyles, in his younger days. All speculation at this point but I do feel that there has to be something there. Thanks for any help you can offer and any directions that you will guide me in trying to sort out my puzzle.
