    1. [NAOTTAWA] Grand River Band
    2. Lorrie Madden
    3. I am new to this list and have just discovered I may have relatives from the people of the Three Fires. I do believe my association is through the Ojibwa but now I am not sure. I have an allotment for my ancestor (O saw gee) from Grand River. He is listed under the Forks Grand River Band for an annuity. I haven't figured out all the details and really don't know where to go. His allotment and probate come from Mount Pleasant, MI. But from my understanding prior to this knowledge was that he was from Lac Vieux Desert, MI in upper Michigan. The death date on this person is June 22, 1864. I am not sure where he died though or where he was buried. Any help would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone

She researched genealogy in the 1970's but much of what she has written she gathered via oral histories from her mother, grandmother and even her great grandmother. There are several discrepancies that I have found with the following information as opposed to what others have on their research sites. For example, in other records I have seen that children of Squire Greyeyes are Elizabeth (presume Betsy), Margaret (presume Mother Solomon), and John Wesley. Is John Wesley also Silas? Or is this 2 different individuals? The following are her notes: Squire (Doctor) GreyEyes - 4/4 Wyandotte married: unknown Children: Betsy Greyeyes and Silas Greyeyes Betsy married Jesse Guyami 4/4 Wyandotte Children: James Guyami and Lizzie Guyami Lizzie married Joe Pooler (1/2 Ottowa and 1/2 Delaware) Child: Jessie Lee Pooler Jessie married Isaac Tussinger Children: Rosa Belle Tussinger, Denzil Lee Tussinger, Joseph Marchard Tussinger Denzil married Goldie Agnes Robnett Child: Donald Lee Tussinger Donald married Anita Louis Hammer Child: Donita Faye Tussinger Donita married Edgar Sims Child: Jason Lee Sims Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NAOTTAWA] MI Indians in the Civil War & other events
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jplalone Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.ethnic.natam.nations.ottawa.ottawanat/38/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Mid-Michigan Genealogical Society presents at their meeting Wednesday, June 27, 2007 Roger D. Winthrop who will speak on "Michigan Indians or Anishinaabe Soldiers in the Civil War". Roger D. Winthrop is an "independent historian" with degrees from Kentucky and Wisconsin who has a long-standing interest in the Civil War, and a more recent one in Michigan's First People. Mr. Winthrop years ago set out to write a 'Regimental' history of a Michigan unit and was trying to choose one when he kept encountering the roster of Company K, First Michigan Sharpshooters, the only all-Indian unit to serve the Union in the East. He could not shake the questions : "Who ARE these people? Why are they fighting?" Answering them took years of research under the guiding hand of an Odawa elder who could take him through the veils of language and culture that separated him from understanding. What was found was not what either of them expected, and from their research is emerging the first complete and coherent story of the Anishinaabeg experience in the Civil War. He will focus on Co. K, but will comment on WI and, to lesser extent, MN Natives if for no other reason than to demonstrate that the reasons they fought were substantially different, quite dependent upon localized socio-politics. Imperfect but useable rosters of Co. K can be found in Ray Herek's THESE MEN HAVE SEEN HARD SERVICE: THE FIRST MICHIGAN SHARPSHOOTERS IN THE CIVIL WAR [Wayne State Press, 1998] or online at either of these websites: http://www.michiganinthewar.org/sharpshooters/1mssa.htm http://members.aol.com/roundsky/company-k.html Meetings are held at Plymouth Congregational Church 2001 East Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI. 7pm-9pm. All are welcome. Also: The Mid-Michigan Genealogical Society is hosting an evening with Colleen Fitzpatrick on July 20, 2007. She calls herself a Forensic Genealogist. Her talk for MMGS will be on applying forensic tools to analyzing old photographs. You can read more about her at: http://www.forensicgenealogy.info/index.html This is part of our society's 40 th anniversary celebration. Please come and enjoy this noted genealogy speaker: http://www.msu.edu/user/pfaff/MMGS/flyer.pdf Colleen Fitzpatrick is also a rocket scientist employing her scientific skills to genealogy research. Thanks, Jim. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
