    3. Hi.. I am of Native Ancestry and have found enough to confirm my Great Grandfather was a member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. The Native American Line is through his mother, on the 1860 Census she is listed as Indian, on everyone after that she and most of her children are listed as white. So just because your ancestor is "white" on the census, it may not be so. Times were tough for Indians and if saying they were white made it easier, who could blame them? Good Luck with your searching!
