The Myers family of Fort Myers in Lee County Florida goes back to 1492. They were known as the Myers/DeLeon family of St Augustine Florida. Lee County was named after General Robert E Lee who's wife was Mary Anna Randolph Custis. She was a direct descent to Pocahontas. Dr David DeLeon was General Robert E Lee's personal doctor. Col Meriwether Lewis Clark was his aide. There are several Myers families Captain James Myers could belong to. I thought he was part of Marine Captain John Twiggs Myers' family and thus in the book Americans of Jewish Descent. General Myers is also in the book "The Randolphs of Virginia". Thomas Jefferson is in section 1 and Pocahontas is in section 8. General Myers is in section 5 or 6. Dr David Deleon had a twin brother who was a writer. He wrote the book "The Belles of the South" by Thomas DeLeon. The Myers/Gratz family out of Philadelphia were the main suppliers of the Lewis and Clark Expedition out of Pittsburgh in 1803. It happend when General Myers' cousin married into the Gratz family of Michael and Bernard Gratz. That is, Jacob Myers married Marion Etting. The connection to Pittsburgh is when the Myers family supplied Col Francis Marion and Col Francis Marion served at Fort Duquesne/Pitt during the French and Indian War. Also General Myers' father, a close friend of William Techumseh Sherman, was the head of the Allegheny Arsenal in Pittsburgh in the 1850's. Another relative was Captain Herndon who was also lost at sea with a shippment of gold from California. These are southern families and most of their records were burned by General Sherman who's daughter, Mini Sherman, lived in Pittsburgh. Her brother, a Catholic Priest, was the aide to Cardinal John McCloskey. His name was Catholic Father Thomas Ewing Sherman and he was the head of the Santa Barbara Mission and my Myers family lived down the street from the Mission thus my interest. My family is buried in the McCloskey lot in Pittsburgh. They have relatives in the Lewis and Clark lot in Pittsburgh. Sorry but when you add a Myers family with Chief Powhattan, things click with me and I can spit things out from what was happening at the DeLeon Estate in Spain in 1400 to what happened this morning and it's all centered around the Native Americans painted on Pope Alexander Borgia's study in 1494.
