I am trying to find info on my great-great grandfather, Lafayette "Barney" Myers. He was born in April,1869 somewhere in Illinois, to parents Henry Myers (b. Ireland) and Nancy Barnett (b. Ohio). He was in Mullen, Nebraska in April 1896, when he married my great great grandmother Jessie Wickham there. He was supposedly from Peoria and/or Mt. Auburn (an Illinois town?), his father was Catholic, and he had had to leave Illinois after getting into a knife fight. He is listed in the 1900 census in Mullen precinct, Hooker County, Nebraska as a servant living in the household of one Edward Stephenson. That’s the last record I have of him, though there was a tale that he later went into a bar (in Nebraska?), swallowed a pill (cyanide?), and dropped dead. Jessie Wickham took their young son Willard and left him in the night, fleeing Nebraska to be with her family. Does anyone have any hints about where Lafayette “Barney” Myers may have ended up?
