It's called the scientific method. You have a theory and you test against it. The theory is you have a "Brick Wall" and a very good reason for a "Brick Wall" is Native American blood at the time of the Indian Removal act of 1835. Test against that. If it doen't wash move on. So ask yourself why a "Brick Wall" in the time frame of 1835 to about 1850. Maybe the family doen't want to move to Iowa with 450 acres of free land as a take it or leave it offer from the government. Better to stay put and have the family come from Germany with no boat tickets as a family record or talk or memory of family members left behind in Germany during WW1 or WW2.
