Or the word myer compare to expert. How do you know they were from the French side of Switzerland? The oral history in my family is they were from Switzerland. The paper trail is to Germanna, where George Moyer was the indentured servant to Robert Beverly (the nation's first historian). John Blankenbaker, of Germanna.Net, believes they were in London for about 4 years before coming to America. So, I think it is likely they spoke English. Once they left Virginia, they always spelled their names Miers or Myers. My line was extremely migratory, usually moving their families several hundred miles or more and almost always living in remote places.
