Myers June 1, 1925 – March 21, 2006 Laura J. Myers, 80, Kokomo, died 10:48 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Howard Regional Health System. Born June 1, 1925, in Sweetser, she was a daughter of Fred and Odissey (Warwick) Chowning. On Oct. 27, 1955, in Kokomo, she married John W. Myers and he survives. She graduated from Kokomo High School in 1943 and from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1946. She worked at Kokomo Clinic as a nurse for Dr. Garvey Bowers, Dr. John Bowers and Dr. Copeland Bowers until all three retired in 1976. She then worked at First Federal Savings and Loan in Kokomo until she and her husband moved to Arizona in 1980. She worked for Copperstate Bank in Arizona, which later became City Bank, retiring in 1990. She was a member of First Christian Church in Kokomo, where she was active in Sarah Circle, choir, and also helped in the nursery. While living in Arizona, she was a member of Desert Heritage Church in Mesa, where she was active in choir and was treasurer of the ladies group. She was also a member of business ladies group, Soroptimus, and bowled in a league at Don Lowry Lanes for many years. Surviving with her husband are a son, Michael Myers, Apache Junction, Ariz.; a daughter, Sally and husband Kent Kring, Kokomo; a brother, David Chowning, Vancouver, Canada; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Mitzenberg, Kempton; brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Myers, Villas, N.J.; two nieces; four nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Max Chowning. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Barbara J. Kinsler officiating. Burial will be in Zion Methodist Cemetery of Kokomo. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
