I'm, literally, grasping at straws here on my line. I understand that posting on the gateway is important, however, I'm sure that not a lot of the people are interested in what transpires between my inquiry and the final results. My Henry Myers line is a horrible mess. About the only thing we know about him is that he was a Revolutionary Soldier, not once, but twice, the first time he served for himself, the second time he served in stead for his brother. He was born "South of the Potomac" in Virginia. And died on the 20th of December, 1842 in Ripley County, Indiana. About a year ago there was a "family reunion" type of thing in Ripley County, however, I was unable to attend. I'm not sure if any clarification was done on this family during that time, as there's been no report posted to any of the known descendants of this Henry Myers. And I have been diligently keeping track of this message area for nearly 3 years now. We know some of his children because they were listed in his Revolutionary War Pension file. And I'm sure that not all of them were listed because of the deaths of some of his descendants before the filing of the pension. There is a gentleman that had done extensive research on this, noting that he had come from Virginia into Kentucky where some of his children were born, and it is believed that he was in Montgomery County, KY, however, the problem lies in the fact that there appears to be at least TWO Henry Myers in that area, with very similar years of birth, and also had similar naming patterns for their children, so a lot of people are getting those two particular Henry Myers confused. Unfortunately, the gentleman that did all this research and who contacted me more than a decade ago regarding my information has since passed away. And certainly because of the onslaught of genealogical interests these days, no one from the past thought to do better work at keeping records on these families, as I know we are all aware of, because I am sure that each and every one of us has run into that proverbial "brick wall" in doing research on their lines. We won't even mention the amount of court houses and records that were burned during the Civil War that hurts those that are doing genealogical research. And rather than start heading in the wrong direction, I'd rather have the correct information, because with over 22 thousand names in my database at this time, and a file that is over one giga byte in length, I'd hate to have to spend weeks deleting the wrong information, as I have had to do in the past. I've already had to add memory to my laptop in which I keep the genealogy information in, and now it's looking like I'm going to have to max out the memory capabilities in my laptop in order to keep up with the Joneses. So, I've come to the conclusion that MY Henry Myers is more or less something of a "John Doe or John Smith" where they are a dime a dozen. And it like putting a puzzle together where that piece looks like it would fit in, however, one teeny little item is keeping it from fully implanting itself into the picture as a whole. And there is nothing more that I would love, and that is to have that line traced back to the immigration of the family to America. I, personally, have worked on this line myself for about a quarter of a century only to keep getting the wrong information and having to go back and delete what I thought was correct. I've no problem discussing this on the board, but I just don't want any back-lash in posting something which may be irrelevant to the Myers line. If you understand what I'm trying to say (I apologize, I am also a Ride Captain with the Patriot Guard Riders and this past weekend has my mind in a quandary as we had several missions hit us at once) -- Deborah "Deb" Myers McKay Knoxville, TN At 12:36 PM 5/22/2007, you wrote: > >In a message dated 5/22/2007 12:25:28 PM Eastern Standard Time, >debmckay@bellsouth.net writes: > >I'd like to know a bit more about this. > > >Hi, Deb- > >Please remember when you are replying to a message that came to the list via >the board gateway, the reply must be posted on the board in order for the >poster to see your reply.
