Author: photo66666 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.myers/4167.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It would be nice to know where in PA. In any event, there was a Myers family connected to Col Francis Marion. Actually two Myers families out of Southern SC. One Jewish who were merchants and suppliers of war goods to Col Francis Marion and the other Catholic who seem to be related to Col Francis Marion and General Lafayette in some way. I am thinking they were from Delft Holland with connections to France and to William Penn and Dr Albert Cook Myers. Dr Myers was born a few miles north of Emmittsburg MD just off RT-15. My research is mostly on the Lewis and Clark Expedition out of Pittsburgh in 1803. It seems that the families involved in the Lewis and Clark Expedition have some connection to both William Penn, Mary Stuart and France. I have a record that states William Penn's grandsons lived in Pittsburgh. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: photo66666 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.myers/6846.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: One thing for sure, the Myers Iron Works had a bad land title and the family of Vice President John Cabel Breckinridge had to fix it by going to court around 1820. The court in the US records all court cases. It seems John Lee, the son of Catholic Gov Thomas Sim Lee, did not do his job correctley. John Lee's brother was married to Eleanor Cromwell of Baltimore who was related to John Cockey Owings of Baltimore. Now how the Breckinridges ended up with the Myers Iron Works might be any ones guess. One thing for sure, Vice President John Cabel Breckinridge was Vice President for President James Buchanan and James' brother was married to songwriter Stephen Foster's sister who lived in Pittsburgh. Then Vice President John Cabel Breckinridge and his aide William B Myers were friends of Catholic Bishop William McCloskey of Louisville KY. William B Myers' father was the City Lawyer for Richmond VA connected to Catholic Bishop John McGill of Richmond VA. The Myers family fleeing from Ireland seem to be Catholic but other records suggest they were Jewish. A third record suggest they could be New Christians making them both Jewish and Catholic. There is a slave issue with this connected to Union Major Martin R Delany MD who lived in Pittsburgh and John Brown of Harpers Ferry. John Brown is buried at Lake Placid on a farm given to him by Elizabeth Cady Stanton's cousin Garrett Smith. Union Major Delany was made a Major of the USCT during the end of the war by Pittsburgh lawyer Edwin M Stanton who was also the Secretary of War. They specifically footnote saying that there 'is very little known about Valentine and Caltherine'. They just say that he was born in the 1770's and died in 1823 when Henry was 10 years old. There is a major Jewish/Catholic Myers family in the United States and they are out of southern SC. The Catholic branch of Col John Jacob Myers is associated with Union General John C Fremont. The Jewish Branch is associated with CSA General John Cabell Breckinridge with Major William M Myers. It is my understanding at least some of them lived in Licking County Ohio and were great admirers of Chief Montizuma. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
