Dear List, I am trying to find the ancestors of Ellen (Eleanor?) Myers who I believe was born in America to David Myers and Julia King, in approximately 1830. She came to Australia and married Thomas Latham She died in 1869 aged 39 years. I am afraid I have no idea of where she was born or how and when she came to Australia. I am hoping some kind person will be able to asist me. Kind regards Ann Burnell
Hello Ann: Do you have the US Census subscription with Ancestry.com? If not, let me know. There are 21 Ell* Myers in the US in the 1850 census under their indexing, all b. within 5 years of 1830. I can check these if you don't have a subscription with them. I searched on Ele* Myers, and none of those listed in their indexing are shown with parents David and/or Julia. O. Fort Benton, was born in Ohio December 18, 1839; son of John P. and Susan Myers. He remained with his parents at Mansfield until nineteen years of age, attending school and assisting in the store of his father, who was then dealing in general merchandise. Leaving Ohio, our subject went to Kansas City, Mo., and there continuing in commercial business until 1860. He then went to Colorado and became one of the original owners of Colorado City, being at the time, in company with ten other gentlemen, interested in various lands in the vicinity; he owned also the renowned " Garden of the Gods," which he disposed of for a mere song. He Was also interested in merchandise and mining in and about Denver city until about the year 1863 when he went to Bannack. Here he turned his attention to mining during the ensuing years until 1876, then moved to the Black Hills, and there constructed the huge ditches that supply the Homestake mines with water. In 1878 Mr. Myers left ! the Black Hills and made a trip to the states for the purpose of disposing of mining stocks. having several times before made similar trips to the East in the interest of various mining companies. Returning in 1878 to Montana, Mr. Myers invested in cattle. and in 1879 formed the co-partnership of Myers, Buck & Co. This firm continued in business until the fall of 1883, when they sold out their cattle interests, retaining their ranch, which is nicely situated in the fertile valley of the Teton river, in Choteau county. Information only. I am not related.

This debate probably is more appropriate in the Native American boards, 2. My wife of over 40 years is a Tribal member of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas so I can claim some first hand knowledge of Tribal politics, not only of this Tribe, but several others with whom I deal on a daily basis. In the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe, the Chief is an elected position, elected for life. There is no hereditary "royal" family. My wife's uncle is Chief, but she is not a "princess"(although to me she is). The only princess is one chosen by popular vote each year to represent the Tribe. This same setup is common in many Tribes. The governing body is the Tribal Council and the political head is the Chairman of the Council, also an elective position. This holds true in most Tribes with which I am familiar. For a wealth of info go to "North American Indian Tribes" or "Running Deer's Longhouse". Both of these are excellent sites. If anyone wishes to carry on the debate privately Email me at "tottka@samlink.com". Am always happy to receive or dole out info.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi2.2ACIB/3056.1.2.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: What is the name of the parents of your George W. Myers? I have seen another post about Valentine Myers saying his father was Philip, so there is a possibility that this is the father of my Philip, but I guess there were several Philips in a few different generations, and they all tend to reuse the names. I know almost nothing about the early life of my ancestor. He was born in 1805 in Easton, Northampton Co., PA, married Ann Mack in the 1820s and then Margaret Brodt in early 1830s. They lived in Slocub Township, Luzerne Co., PA and were among the first settlers there. I know Philip was educated because he taught classes where he read the bible, and the Bibles were in German so he would have been from German ancestors. His children were named George Myers, Henry Myers, Maria Anne Myers, Reuben Jacob Myers, Elizabeth Myers, Caroline Myers, Margaret Myers, John Myers, Priscilla Myers, Norman Myers, William P. Myers, Lydia Myers, Christiana Myers, Ellen Myers and Rachel Myers. ! Do a lot of these names appear in your family? I don't have any census records of this ancestor. I'm sure there are some since he lived until 1884, but I don't have access to the census right now.
