I don't know whether there was a relationship, since Myers is such a common name. Have you ever looked at the website of the Ontario County Records and Archives Center? They have lots of online indexes to records that are in the archives, with info on how to order them if you find anything interesting. Their website is at http://www.raims.com/. Right now, that is the only advice I can think to give you. Jerilyn

The first census I can find James on, was 1850 living in Cohocton, Steuben Co. NY. In 1855 he was in Hartsville. His birthplace was listed as Ontario Co. NY. There was a Josiah Myers living in Phelps in 1820 & was in Steuben Co. on 1830 census. I am wondering if that was his Father. Have not been able to find Josiah after 1830. James named his sons: (1) Augustus C (do not know what the C stood for. (2) Jacob Josiah (3) Charles Monroe (My G Grandfather). There were 2 Daut also: Nancy & Anne. One interesting thing on the 1850 & 1860 Cohocton census, an ( Oliver) Ross Myers had a son named Josiah and another named David (Monroe). Some Census' had James father born in NJ others NY. Have checked James' death record in MN and it gives no parents names. Gloria

The pre-civil war branches of Willis, Waller, Myers and Dodson are so intertwined it's crazy. While I have not researched this line much, it does not suprise me at all that CDA Myers married a Willis cousin. Anyway, from what I can judge, old James M. Willis and Sarah Martin had 5 kids, 3 of whom married Myers siblings (Children of James Myers and Frances Waller): Mary Willis m. Charles T. Myers (father of CDA Myers) Count Darrell Allison Willis m. Permelia Myers (CDA was a Civil War hero - here's the name connection) Rebecca Jane Willis m. Pleasant William Myers A bunch of them left Pittsylvania, VA after the losses of the Civil War for Boone and surrounding counties in WV for the opportunities offered by coal mining. Some other online resources: check out the VAGENWEB site for Pittsylvania, the Myers and Willis' have many records there. Also, WV Dept. of History has now put online many of their vital records. It is a work in progress but has been invaluable in my Bradley research. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_mustlogin.aspx Kate

On the 1830 census for Rushcreek Twp, Fairfield Co., OH . I believe the father of John Leffler, is Peter Leffler, born 1772 in Dutch Fork Creek, Washington Co., PA and step mother Susannah Redy/Reedy born 1795 VA. Peter Leffler and unknown first wife are on the 1820 census for Fairfield Co., OH with their young family including John. I'm looking for the names of Nancy Myer's parents. Thanks for any help. I believe Henry MYERS is probably related to my ancestor ie Lesley MYERS who came out of Greene/Hawkins co. TN and into Rhea by 1830. I think Lesley's father is Christopher MYERS b abt 1790 (VA?) and md. Lydia WEST. My guess it that they maybe sons or grandsons of Jacob MYERS who md. Eliza ROSS and had mills in Greene co. TN and is listed in land records there. THere are two other MYERS I think are related to Lesley, ie. Henderson MYERS and (oh gosh, my memory is slipping here) but what I wanted to point out is that they went into MO as well, into Texas/Webster Co. MO and then one went on to Okla. When I have time I'll look up Henderson's brother. They went from the Greene co. TN region to Rhea as well. there is a old deed in McMinn Co. record for Jacob MOYERS heir of David ROSS, whose dec.d daughter Eliza had married. I suspect this land lays in Rhea Co. and that is what took the MYERS to that region. It may be prudent to trace this land. Since Caleb's mother Anna was born in 1769, she was too old to be the mother of your James, who was born in 1820. However, that doesn't mean there is not some relationship. Did James live in Phelps or Lyons? Did he move to any other place later? Thanks, Jerilyn

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi2.2ACIB/5906.1.1 Message Board Post: Gloria, Caleb's parents were Christopher and Anna Myers. Christopher was born in about the 1770s and died in 1842 in Lyons, Wayne Co., NY. And they did live in Phelps, Ontario Co., NY for a while. Part of Phelps was incorporated into the town of Lyons during the time that Wayne Co. was being incorporated. I don't think the family moved... it was just that their town and county names both changed. Also, I see in my notes about the U.S. Census of 1810, I have the following information. There was a James and a Samuel Myers living near Christopher during that census. I have not established a relationship. Could this be your James? In the 1810 U. S. Census Christopher Myers is listed in Ontario Co, NY (Reel 33, p. 150) with a household of: One male 26-45 (Christopher; est. birth date would be 1765-1784) One female 26-45 (Anna, b. about March 1769) One male 10-16 (b. 1794-1800) One male under 10 (b. 1800-1810) One female 10-16 (b. 1794-1800 -- possibly Huldah) Three females under 10 (b. 1800-1810 -- one was Prudence; others unknown) Living nearby were a Sam. Myers and a Jas. Myers. (Samuel Myers was in the same age range as Christopher: 26-45; he could have been Christopher's brother, as he appears to be a little old to be his son. In Samuel's household were one female age 16-26 (b. about 1784-1794) and two males under age 10 (b. 1800-1810). By the age of his wife and children it appears that Samuel may have been younger than Christopher.) (James Myers was age 16-26 (b. 1784-1794). In his household was a female of the same age, and one male under 10. It is possible for James to have been the son of Christopher and Anna. If Samuel was indeed younger than Christopher, as speculated above, then James was probably not his son.) Hope to hear from you, Jerilyn
