Joseph Myers was born about 1812 in Virginia. By 1850 he is married to "Ruth" (Mary Ruth- last name unknown) born in Ohio about 1820, and living in Menard Co., Illinois. According the the 1850 census they have children M. E. female age 11, J. male age 9, M. E. female age 6, H. M. female age 4 and S. E. female age 1/2. All children are born in Ohio except H. M and S. E. born in Illinois. In 1860 census, Menard Township, Athens P. O. Illinois, they have children Jacob, Elizabeth, Hannah M., Sarah M. , Abner L., Rosetta M, & Joseph S. (Hannah down born in Illinois). By 1870 they are at Nashville, Barton Co., Mo. with Hannah, Abner, Rozetta, Samuel and Emma. 1880 census Nashville, Barton Co., Mo they are with children Rosetta, Samuel and Emma. Joseph and son Jacob died of typhoid in 1880. According to a wonderful narrative written by a grand ! daughter, Ruth Peterson Armstrong, "Ruth" went back to Illinois with a daughter Lizz who married a Mr. Shawn (believed to be at this writing Charles S. Shawn who married a Elizabeth Myers Dec 24, 1863 in Menard Co. Ill. I have found a Charles and Eliz Shawn and children Kitty, Lavina and Ruth in 1870 Jasper Co. Mo census. I have pictures of Joseph and Ruth and a wonderful print of their covered wagon and some male family members complete with long guns from a tin type. Other children known to have married into Adams/Peterson, Huffman and Oswalt families. I have been unable to find the Shawn family after 1870 in census. The grand daughter's narriative said the Shawn's had children Lee, Ernest and Rovie (posssibly Ruth). I am hopeful that this detailed message will strike a cord with some family with whom I can share information with the ultimate goal of learning the parents of Joseph and Ruth. Thanks Jean
