    3. All of WV and some parts of KY were part of VA before the Civil War. In fact, you could say that everything west of the Alleghenies was once considered VA. Go to: http://www.wvculture.org/HISTORY/wvcounties.html for a background on WV counties. When I looked at that, I saw that Greenbrier was formed from Montgomery and Botetourt, which are today in southwestern Virginia, several hundred miles from Shenandoah and Frederick Cos. --- creigmy@swbell.net wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to > this mailing list. > > Surnames: myers > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Hi2.2ACIB/6284.2.1.1.1.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Not being familiar with the area....Where does > Greenbriar Co fit into the lndscape? and it was a > part of VA before being WVA. cm > > > > ********* > Visit the threaded archives of this list: > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/MYERS > ********* > Messages posted to the RootsWeb/Ancestry MYERS > Message Board are gatewayed to this Mailing List. > Remember that the author of gatewayed messages may > not be a list subscriber so please reply to > gatewayed messages by clicking on the link and > replying on the board. > ************ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email > to MYERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word > 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and > the body of the message > Deborah M.S. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Hi2.2ACIB/4085.1.2.1 Message Board Post: My question in the 2002 post was - "Was the Bourbon Furnace Jacob Myers the same Jacob Myers who DRIFTED, as Furgerson and Wells said in their books, from Lincoln Co. down to Cumberland Co. ca. 1800 and bought a small farm?" The will of the Jacob Myers in Lincoln Co. KY, posted now on the Lincoln Co. KY site, proves that the info in Wells' and Ferguson's books was incorrect. The Jacob Myers with all the land, who lived in Lincoln Co. KY, was not the Jacob Myers who drifted into Cumberland Co. Cumberland Co. Jacob actually acquired a small land grant in Cumberland Co.(land - later in the possession of one of his sons) after the will of Lincoln Co. Jacob was probated. Evidently neither Wells or Ferguson realized how many Jacob Myerses there were. Gale

This family which as been in America since the mid 1600's is a wealthy Dutch Jewish family although Jacob himself maybe Catholic. The Myers families are in 4 cities. Boston, Pittsburgh, Richmond Va and Baltimore. It helps to know who the Myers families are related to in these cities. The Wealthy Owings Family is from Baltimore and it helps also to know who they are related to. The whole transaction of the sale of the Slate Creek Works is to help in getting government contracts to produce cannonballs. Baltimore is important city since Dupont is there and the Government ammo testing area is there. Jacob Myers and his son Jacob Myers jr. move to Baltimore to help get these contracts.

If you look at the Myers family in Richmond VA as well as the Myers family in Pittsburgh and Boston and who they are related to, the answer is very easy.

It's a google item and easy to look up. It might be true he could not read or write because of other issues with the family. If you looked at the Inlaws, Jacob Myers is very well recorded. The Slate Creek Iron Works made cannonballs under government contract for the war of 1812. Jacob Myers Jr Moved to Baltimore to get these contracts. Myers Jr most likely could read and write although his father might not have been able to do so. Note Dupont is also in Baltimore. The Government testing ground for ammo is in Baltimore.

I'm trying to find any relations to my Edward Myers who was born in VA abt 1800-1810. He married in Frederick County, VA. His first son was born in Cinncinati, OH the other two sons were born in VA, 1832 & 1833. Edward is listed on the 1830 Frederick Co, VA census, and the 1840 Ralls Co., MO census where he died. The tale goes before going to MO, he was in IN. His son's names are Stephen George, Joseph Edward, & Marshall Emery. I think the names may be family names. Edward Myers md Elizabeth Griffin in 1827 in Frederick Co., VA. They both died before 1850.

My George Myers (b. 1799 in VA) was in Franklin Co. OH between 1830-1840. At one point he went to Illinois, but came back to Franklin Co. He could have had a son born c. 1835. After he returned to Franklin Co. in 1840, I can no longer find him. He could easily have gone to Indiana, if he decided he didn't like Illinois or didn't want to stay in Ohio. George had a sister in Trumbull Co. OH and another sister who lived with him in Franklin Co. for a brief time. The sister who lived with George in Franklin Co. eventually ended up in Steuben Co. Indiana. Think there is any connection?
