    1. [Myers] William MYERS, born Adams County, PA 1866 or 1867
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jmyoung365 Surnames: MYERS, ZINN, MILLER, BAIR, CORNBOWER, RABENSTINE Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.myers/7671/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been trying to trace my great-grandfather, Henry MYERS's siblings just in case I can make contact with descendants of cousins from these branches of the family. Here is the information I've gathered on William MYERS: William MYERS was born July 30, 1866 or 1867 in Adams County, PA, to Conrad and Maria (ZINN) MYERS who are my great-great-grandparents. William married Emma (maiden name not known) and they had the following children: Paul M. MYERS born about 1893 (born New Chester, PA) Mabel A. MYERS born about 1897 (born PA) Robert J. MYERS born about 1903 (born PA) Earl R. MYERS born 1905 (born MD) Mary A. MYERS born about 1913 (born PA) On the 1870 and 1880 census records William "Willie" is at home with his parents and siblings in Reading Twp, Adams County, PA. William MYERS married Emma in 1892 and is living in Hanover, York County, PA at the time of the 1900 census. By 1910 the family has moved to Baltimore, MD where William is working as a carpenter. In 1920 he is back in Hanover, York County, PA. William died in 1921 and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, PA. Emma MYERS is still living as of the 1940 census. In 1930 she is most likely the Emma MYERS shown in York as a housekeeper and widow in the household of John W. EICH. I have tried to track the children of William and Emma MYERS: Paul M. MYERS was living in Penn Twp., York County, PA in 1920 as follows: Paul M. MYERS, age 27 Alice F. MYERS, age 30 (her age is indexed as 20 but the census clearly says 30) Carroll K. MYERS age 4, son Ralph A. MYERS age 3 son (born Apr. 20, 1916 and died May 20, 1962) Pauline MYERS age 1 dau George S. MILLER, age 19, Nephew By 1930 I found Paul's children here: Penn Twp., York County Charles A. BAIR, age 44 head of household Amanda A. BAIR, age 42, wife (Amanda's maiden name is CORNBOWER) Gladys E. BAIR, age 5, dau Carroll K. MYERS, age 14, nephew Ralph A. MYERS, age 13, nephew Pauline M. MYERS, age 11, niece Paul M. MYERS is nowhere to be found after the 1920 census. Neither is Alice F, his wife. I found Alice F. MYERS on Find A Grave buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, PA. Alice F. MYERS was born Dec. 27, 1899 and died Feb. 17, 1920. So it appears likely that the children above were taken in because they were orphaned sometime after the 1920 census. By 1940 Charles BAIR is a widower and his daughter Gladys is still living at home but the MYERS children are gone. ---------------- I haven't been able to locate Mabel A. MYERS who left the family group between 1910 and 1920 so she could have married or died during that time, most likely married. ----------- Robert J. MYERS is on the 1930 and 1940 census as follows: 1930 Manchester Twp., York County, PA: Robert J. MYERS, age 26 Clara N. MYERS age 26 Doris L. MYERS age 3 William A. age 1 1940 City of York, York County, PA: Robert J. MYERS age 36, occupation: Post Office Clerk Clara N. MYERS, age 36 Doris L MYERS age 12 Waller (should be William) MYERS age 11 John L. MYERS age 8 ---------- I found Earl MYERS living in the City of York, York Co., PA in 1930: Earl R. MYERS, age 25 Margaret E. MYERS age 24 Robt. E. MYERS age 3 years and 6/12 months. In 1940 Earl and family are living in West York, York Co., PA: Earl R. MYERS, age 35, occupation Draftsman. Lived same place in 1935 Margaret MYERS, age 34 Robert E. MYERS, age 13 Horatio RABENSTINE, age 67, born Maryland (he is Margaret's father). Earl R. MYERS is buried in Greenmount Cemetery, York, PA. He died in 1984. ---------- I have located Mary A. MYERS in 1940 living with her husband and mother in the City of York, York Co., PA: Francis GILBERT age 29, occupation Barber Mary GILBERT age 27 Emma MYERS, mother-in-law, age 68 Widow The couple had no children as of the 1940 census. Author: photo66666 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.myers/6565.2.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My research is on Jacob Myers the Surveyor. He was from Frederick Maryland and might be Catholic. There might be a connection to Catholic Whiskey Maker Basel Hayden and Jacob Myers of the Iron Works at Slate Creek Kentucky. One thing for sure, Senator John Cabell Breckinridge was the major stock holder of the Myers Iron Works and his grandson was Vice President John Cabell Breckinridge. John Cabell Breckinridge was the Vice President of President James Buchanan and James Buchanan's brother was married to Pittsburgh Songwriter Stephen Foster's sister. Then Catholic Bishop William McCloskey of Louisville KY was friends with Vice President John Cabell Breckinridge. Bishop McCloskey's sister, Mary McCloskey, was married to Union Major James Ryan of Pittsburgh and Union Major James Ryan's brother was Catholic Bishop Stepehn V Ryan of Buffalo NY. Bishop Ryan was close friends with William H Seward and William H Seward's grandson William H Seward III married Anna Myers from Pittsburgh. I have all the original records of the Myers family of the Surveyor given to me by another family member. A DNA test shows the Surveyor Myers family maybe connected to the Cooke family of England who made lenses for the Surveyor Equipment. I have more on this but you get the idea. Author: photo66666 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.myers/5190.1.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have done a little research on the Myers families of Loudoun County. There is a Myers book at the Balch Center at Leesburg. This Myers family was from Lancaster PA. I am not sure why the book is there as none of these Myers' seem to be in Loudoun County. The Myers family I am looking for where all at the Funeral of CSA JEB Stuart. It's a fairly well documented funeral and one of the daughters, Morrow Stuart Smith, writes her family came from Lancaster PA. This kind of agrees with Confederate Secretary of War George W Randolph records. He was one of the Pall Bearers. The General's son JEB Stuart II went to NYC to live on the invite of his grandfather Union General Phillip St Georges Cooke. Floria Cooke Stuart and her daughter Morrow Stuart went south. Flora's brother John Esten Cooke stay in Loudoun County and is buried in Clark County at the Old Chapel of Bishop Meade. He is buried about 25 ft from Gov Edmund Jennings Randolph who would be George W Randolph's great uncle. John wrote the book The Life of Hunter John Myers so thus my interest in the Loudoun County Myers family, who ever they are. Hunter John Myers' family was from Martinsburg and they were Catholic. The story is more about his daughter, actress Sally Myers, who attended a Catholic Girls School in Martinsburg with teachers from Mount St Mary's in Emmitsburg MD. This Myers family lived in Morgan County just west of Martinsburg. CSA General JEB Stuart was close friends with the President of Mount St Mary's College. His name was Rev John McCloskey and he was friends with Protestant Rev William Breckinridge who was CSA General John Cabell Breckinridge's nephew. A story out of Mount St Marys is that Rev McCloskey rode with CSA General JEB Stuart to York PA. I have lots more on this but I do believe you get the idea.
