Do you have any Myers born in NJ in 1799 named Isaac? I have no idea who his parents were or where in NJ. Thanks, Lucy nomadsedlu@aol.com Hi, Lucy- I just post the new RSL listings for the surname MYERS to this list in case someone might be interested in contacting the person who submitted the new listing. The person may not be subscribed to this list but can be contacted privately at the email address included in my message--in this case: jennyhoolihan@aol.com . In this case I believe the "Suffolk" being referred to isn't in the USA but rather in England. Good luck! Joan, admin

I believe they died in the 1920's as the last i have seen of them is in the 1920 Republic Co, Kansas census. They do not appear in the 1930 Census. They are probably buried in the Belleville Cemetery but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Don Karnish Omaha dlk59@cox.net
Hi folks, Thanks to all who have answered the query I sent out on Saturday regarding Elisha G. Myers (a.k.a. Myres). I have not yet determined who his parents (or siblings) were, but I have assembled the information I was able to find and put it online here: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/myres.html If you review this information and it rings a bell, or you have any direct information about Elisha's family yourself I would very much appreciate hearing from you. If anyone has access to the 1855 state census of Lewis County, NY, I would very much appreciate a look-up of Elisha, please -- the state census that year reported the county of birth. If anyone has access to the 1892 census of Jefferson County, NY, I'd appreciate a look-up in the Town of Leray to see if Elisha is listed there that year. Thanks! Mark
Hi, Does anyone have any information about Elisha G. MYRES (also spelled MYERS)? He was born about 1810, was living in Deer River, Lewis Co., NY in 1840, and for 36 years prior to his death was a farmer in Lowville, same county. He died in 1895 at the home of his nephew Horace S. Anable in the Town of LeRay in neighboring Jefferson Co., NY. The above is all from newspaper and census records. I am interested because Elisha is the brother of my grt-grt-grt-grt-grandmother Sally Myres, who married Abner H. Anable. I'm trying to determine the Myres ancestry. Here is the Anable genealogy: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/annable.html Thanks! Mark Wentling

Yes, the title is honorary and has recently been used by the chickasaw and other tribes. As I stated in my first post, the title is not inherited. In the Osage tribe it is bestowed on a female that has brought honor to the tribe. The following link is a transcript of a "princess" testifying to the US House of Representatives. http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:t3gsuwH1N7YJ:resourcescommittee.house.gov/archives/108/testimony/2004/jessicamoore.htm osage princess&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=16 If the genealogists want to put their heads in the sand and say there are no indian princesses, then so be it. The link you provided to a picture on the website at Freepages simply shows a school class picture--nothing about any reference to an Indian princess. Joan

A schoolmate, Ethyl Pickens was an Osage princess and was very proud of the title. http://freepages.school-alumni.rootsweb.com/~schoolpics/ok/cherokee55/pix/page57.jpg BTW her family was very proud of the fact and nearly disowned her brother when he married my cousin, a non-osage. Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.myers/508.713.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dennis- Can you cite your sources for this info about the Osage using the term "princess?" As has been pointed out already "princess" is a European title and wouldn't be one used by Native American tribes. Genealogists cringe when they hear someone suggest there is an "Indian Princess" in their family tree since that term wasn't used. It is sort of a red flag that the story probably isn't true. So I'd be interested in your source and when and where the Osage used this "title." Thanks! Joan

It could even be the Osage adopted the term....but anyway he was talking about the Delaware not the Osage anyway...
