My Simon's father was Simon also, from Baden Germany. His wives were Catherine, when he was very young, then Nellie, whom he had all the children with, and then in later years, Lucinda. Thank you so much for answering though. This is the only way we can find things out - by others helping and asking questions. Have a great day and thanks again. Author: photo66666 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.myers/7598.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Myers family I am now working on were associated with Car Maker Walter P Chrysler. Walter, although born in Kansas, lived in Pittsburgh. There is a Jacobite and Methodist connection with this family when the Methodists of John Westley of Savanna Georgia enlisted help from some Catholic Jacobites named Stuart on issues John Westly had with the Church of England. A well recorded story and you will find this story connected to Methodist Bishop John Heyl Vincent and his business partner Lewis Miller. Lewis Miller's daughter, Mina, married Thomas A Edison and of course Thomas Edison owned a house with Henry Ford at Fort Myers in Lee County Florida. Walter P Chrysler would know all about this if indeed he made cars. It's just the McCleary name pops up. The McClearys like the Earps were Methodist Missionaries out of Frederick MD and they moved to Kansas and later to Tombstone AZ. All these families seem to know Union General Phillips St Georges Cooke and his daughter Floria Cooke when they were in Kansas when it was bleeding. Flora married Catholic Jacobite Lt JEB Stuart. He converted to Church of England in Kansas and later became CSA General JEB Stuart. If you read about the Funeral of CSA General Jeb Stuart, Secretary of War George W Randolph was the lead Pall Bearer and many Myers families were at the Funeral. George was Thomas Jefferson's grandson and he might also be related to Secretary of War Edwin M Stanton of Pittsburgh. As you can see, it's a mess. I haven't been on here in a while. I don't believe they were Methodist, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't be true. I just frankly don't know. I haven't come across Pittsburgh in any of my research. Simon Wesley Myers married Nellie McClary or McCleary, I believe in Kansas or Iowa. Their daughters, Emma P. and Nora, married two brothers, Luther and Lawrence French. They lived in Ohio and Indiana. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He did live in Kansas too, but it was earlier. His first son, Arthur G., was born in Kansas in 1886 and died in 1971. Where is your Simon buried? Is it in Indiana? Mine was married to Nellie McClary or McCleary and then to a Lucinda Dunn (later years in life). However he was buried with Nellie in Indiana. They didn't have 17 children though. The similarities are strange though. . .Ohio, Indiana and Kansas. Nellie, his wife, was born in Iowa. Does any of this fit your tree? 3. Paul Myers, I am not sure about Glanworth, but Myers is a fairly common name in Ireland, if you don't get too strict about the spelling. My family is Mears in Co. Mayo. also spelled Meer, Meers, Mair, Mairs, etc. check out our family webpage at <www.creamers.name> [my Grandma Myers' maiden name was Creamer.] Dave Myers -- your cousin? This Myers family was also related to the Breckinridge family of Vice President John Cabel Breckinridge. There might even be a connection to the Norfolk and Western Railroad. Myers relatives would live all along this railroad line which includes Pittsburgh and the Pocahontas Coal Fields of Virginia/WV. List of relatives would be Ann Barraud Taylor and her father General Robert Barraud Taylor, Major John Lewis and his uncle General Andrew Lewis, Virginia Gov John Floyd and his cousin Sgt James Floyd of Lewis and Clark. Edmonia Madison Randolph who was the daughter of Virginia Gov Edmund Jenning Randolph who was the cousin of Thomas Jefferson and great uncle of George W Randolph. Author: fnerraw Surnames: MYERS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.myers/7703/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It seems to be impossible to get people to cite actual "sources" for the information they post. Most just accept someone else's data as factual. Trust me folks, just because someone saw it on Ancestry.Com does not mean it is factual. I,too am guilty of such mistakes in my early years of genealogy. For the record: JOHN MYERS 8 Aug 1783 to 12 Jul 1842 (my husband's 3x gt grandfather) was married to Rachel Wolfcale 29 Aug 1808 in Austintown, TRUMBULL Co OH (as it was known until the 1840's when it became part of Mahoning County OH. (we live there!) Source: I have a copy of their marriage certificate. Plus early census record. Plus record of John being recruited for War of 1812 (Under Capt Joshua T. Cotton) along with many others from Austintown Twp Trumbull Co. Source for John Myers death: 1)John and Rachel are found on the 1830 census of what was then known as Augusta Twp COLUMBIANA Co. OH but was Augusta Twp CARROLL Co OH in the 1840 census. 2) We have a copy of John's will as found in CARROLL Co OH records. And 3) We have been to (and photographed) his grave. It was John and Rachel's eldest son (hubby's 2x gt grand) JONATHAN WOLFCALE MYERS born 1810 Trumbull Co OH who bought and cleared land in Bloomdale WOOD Co. OH who moved with his wife and family from Trumbull Co to Wood Co in the 1840's. John Myers did serve in War of 1812 near Sandusky OH--and we have the tomahawk he took from an Indian during that war. ( both from "family lore" and a written account of the incident in an article done by the Firelands Historical Society as written by *don't have in front of me but think it was a General Wadsworth from that battle) As for place of birth of John Myers...his son stated it as Virginia on 1850 census. Having been only 40yrs old at that time I give that some weight. However, I have also heard Pennsylvania mentioned. But let's recall history....in the mid-late 1700's VIRGINIA claimed much of western PA. So I would have to ask.."was the birth actually in VA or was it in a portion of PA claimed by VA? Someone out there in "genealogy land" keeps posting that the John Myers born Aug 1783 who died in 1842 (our John Myers) parents were Jacob Myers and ? Ent. I have no doubt that there was a John Myers born abt the same time who had those parents...but is it the same John? That has NOT been proven. This same guy keeps claiming that all the early Myers were either Jewish or Lutheran Germans. Caveat: Unless there are solid sources to back it up...take it with a grain of salt. Sorry but this is a real pet peeve of mine. Genealogy should be about TRUTH, not rumor. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
