    2. Richard Berkheiser
    3. Hi everyone! Sorry to start another thread of messages so close to a Surname Shout Out but with the lists being down the first part of the year it threw my scheduling off. Hope you don't mind... With this being the Memorial Day Weekend, I thought it would it be interesting to post one ancestor we have in our family trees who served in one of the many wars and battles we fought in US History. Obviously it has to be an ancestor from this county. :) Give a brief biography of that person including the unit and war he or she was in, a POW, injuries, plus the usual genealogical stuff. Thanks in advance and have a safe weekend! Rick B Admin

    1. [MTWHEATL] Nihill Cemetery
    2. Tammy
    3. Hi, About 1912 my gr-grandfather , Nanke Ackerman, took his young family west from South Dakota to homestead in Nihill, Meager Co, Montana. My gr-grandmother, Dina, became ill a few years later and was taken back "home" to Minnesota for care in a hospital closer to her parents. She died 30 Apr 1914 and is buried in a cemetery in Reville Co, Minnesota. Nanke remarried a couple of years later to Nettie, my gr-grandmother's sister. In 1920 my gr-grandfather died at the hospital in Harlowton. My grandmother was 13 at the time and the rest of the family had contracted scarlet fever so they were unable to attend the funeral. My gr-grandmother moved the family back to Iowa shortly thereafter. I believe Nihill is now located in Wheatland Co. due to county restructuring and Nihill siding ceased to exist sometime in the 20s. I am looking for the location of the Nihill Cemetery. My grandmother traveled back to Montana in the late 70s/early 80s to try to find her father's burial place. She said it was very barren and was open range. Her and my aunt found what they thought was the cemetery, with only a couple of gravesites visible only with 2x4s as plot markers. Does anyone know anything about Nihill cemetery? the coordinates? who may be keeper of the cemetery records? or any information on where this cemetery may be? I can find Nihill on the map, but I am looking for more detailed information regarding the cemetery. Also, if anyone has any photos of Nihill, I would be very interested in a scanned copy so I can see what Nihill was like. This gr-grandfather is the only one of any of my direct ancestors that immigrated to the U.S. that I don't know specifics of his burial place. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks! Tammy

Unfortunately I didn't find anything for Evald or Dena. I don't think Evald died during WWII because I found a list of Wheatland County soldiers who did die during WWII and his name wasn't listed. Wheatland Coounty does have a Museum Upper Wheatland Historical Society which is open May 1 through Oct. 31. You can contact them at 11 South Central Ave., Harlowton, MT 59035, 406-632-5519. They might do research during the winter or maybe not. Hopefully they'll have Wheatland County or Judith Gap Directories. I may be mistaken with the exact spelling of the surname Ulson or Alson as it is not easy to decipher so it could be some thing very similar.
