    3. An obituary published in the Montana Standard reads as Follows: " VETERAN MINER OF WEST PASSES" , Salt Lake City, March 30.--George Hill, 90, veteran miner of Utah and Montana, died in a hospital here today. Born in Ireland, Hill came to Utah in 1865 and spent his first winter here digging a canal with Brigham Young, pioneer leader who brought the first party of "Mormons" to Utah in 1847. In 1866, Hill went to Montana and spent several years prospecting for gold--without much success. He returned to Utah and was engaged in mining here when the late Marcus Daly founded the Anaconda Copper Mining company in Montana. Mr. Daly sent for Hill and named him superintendent of operations. Hill was later appointed superintendent of the Walker mine, at Walkerville, Mont. now a suburb of Butte. He returned to Utah in 1890 and purchased a hotel at Park City. He retired in 1915 and moved to this city. ---- Mr. Hill was recalled last night by a number of Butte old-timers. We would like to correspond with Hill family members or others interested in the life of this man. Thanks, Kathie
