He lived there until 1913, at which point he moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. My great-grandmother's name was Mary Warrington (who was originally from Minnesota). On Aug 1, 1909, my grandfather, Harley Albert Brown, was born in Butte. He had two brothers: Harold Earl and Raymond. While he was in Butte, Harley Edgar worked at the Butte Miner, the Butte Inter-Ocean, and at 21 became the press forman of the Butte Evening News. This is everything I know about his early life, and my father (also named Harley - not surprisingly) doesn't know any more than I do. Mary died when my grandfather was very young - so it's possible she is buried in Butte. She would have to have died there between 1909 and 1913 (but she may have died in Saskatoon). The only concrete-(ish) piece of information I have about them is this: on an old envelope I found containing some news clippings on Harley E., is written - 'dairy farm outside butte 1896. later 1900 anaconda copper mine'. So the family likely moved from Chicago to Butte sometime between c.1880 and 1909 (when Harley A. was born) and started a diary just outside of town - and from what I understand, there wasn't much 'town' to be outside of. So I suppose my questions(s) are: - is there any place I can find employee listings for Anaconda? - is there anywhere some info might be recorded on the newspapers I mentioned? - are there any available property listings for farms in and around butte at the turn of the century? I'm not asking for anyone to do my legwork :-) It's just hard to find the info from this far away (Ontario, Canada). I actually have step-family down there, so I can get them to do some legwork for me - as long as I know where to send them, or where to look. Does anyone have a cemetery listing? Maybe Mary Brown, w/o Harley is listed. Thanks, you've been a great crowd. I'll be appearing in the Special Collections department of the library from 2pm to closing every Tuesay, and then it's off to Vegas where I'll be opening for the guy who did the LDS family tree about the Queen.
