I recently learned that my mother was living at 1902 S. Montana Street in Butte when I was born in 1963. She lived in a quadraplex at that address. Apparently, that land was sold eventually to Phillips Petroleum. I am looking for any records pertaining to my mother whose maiden name was Sharon Elizabeth Hanson. She would be somewhere between 59 and 61 years old now. She was born in Billings, lived in Butte at least for a while, and gave birth to me at Missoula Community Hospital on September 28, 1963. I would be incredibly grateful for any information you can give me, even if it's just a clue as to how to go about finding information that might lead to my finding her. Of course, I'll am more than happy to pay you. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks so much. Debbie Estes

Moved to upstate New York sometime between 1900-1910 (I think). He died in 1946, she in 1968. He was a border living in a house owned by Albina's sister. Can find no record of them coming through Ellis Island. Funny enough, my married name is Johnston.

Hi Everyone On the 1930 Census my Aunt said her father was born in the "Irish Free State". I noticed that there were many other listing with the same phrase. Anyone know where I would look for his birth records or what the "Irish Free State" is referring to. Thanks, Dawn

Click on this and you will see a blue link to Silver Bow County. Click again, and you will see all the research possibilities for Butte-Silver Bow County, including an e-mail address for the B-SB County Archives. Before you request any information from the Archives, however, check into the cost as they are very pricey indeed! But at least you will have a starting place. I am sure they have the old employee records for the Anaconda Company, and they have City Directories going back to before dirt. Good luck!

I would have introduced myself to you all. My name is Mike Brown (Harley M. Brown, officially), and I'm in Hamilton, Ontario. I've been researching my genealogy, and my wife's, for about two months. I have Lisa's back to c1517, and mine back to 1794. I've done a couple of variations of an HTML 'family tree' at http://geneweb.akacooties.com/docs and http://geneweb.akacooties.com/dcos2 I haven't updated it for a while - which will be corrected today. I have a third version, which I may upload as well. I like aspects of each version, which is why I have the three. I wish someone would come up with the perfect GED/HTML program. We have a genealogy group in Hamilton, but I'd be glad to help if I can. I'm getting to know the smaller and pioneer cemeteries around here, and I visit the Special Collections section of the library once a week (or more). Hope you all have a spinetinglingly good weekend - Mike --=======4FFF4EF9======= Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; x-avg=cert; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-383718F4 Content-Disposition: inline --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Brown Warrington Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VNB.2ACE/593 Message Board Post: Hello, everyone - My great-grandfather, Harley Edgar Brown, moved to Butte from Chicago when he was very young. He lived there until 1913, at which point he moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. My great-grandmother's name was Mary Warrington (who was originally from Minnesota). On Aug 1, 1909, my grandfather, Harley Albert Brown, was born in Butte. He had two brothers: Harold Earl and Raymond. While he was in Butte, Harley Edgar worked at the Butte Miner, the Butte Inter-Ocean, and at 21 became the press forman of the Butte Evening News. This is everything I know about his early life, and my father (also named Harley - not surprisingly) doesn't know any more than I do. Mary died when my grandfather was very young - so it's possible she is buried in Butte. She would have to have died there between 1909 and 1913 (but she may have died in Saskatoon). The only concrete-(ish) piece of information I have about them is this: on an old envelope I found containing some news clippings on Harley E., is written - 'dairy farm outside butte 1896. later 1900 anaconda copper mine'. So the family likely moved from Chicago to Butte sometime between c.1880 and 1909 (when Harley A. was born) and started a diary just outside of town - and from what I understand, there wasn't much 'town' to be outside of. So I suppose my questions(s) are: - is there any place I can find employee listings for Anaconda? - is there anywhere some info might be recorded on the newspapers I mentioned? - are there any available property listings for farms in and around butte at the turn of the century? I'm not asking for anyone to do my legwork :-) It's just hard to find the info from this far away (Ontario, Canada). I actually have step-family down there, so I can get them to do some legwork for me - as long as I know where to send them, or where to look. Does anyone have a cemetery listing? Maybe Mary Brown, w/o Harley is listed. Thanks, you've been a great crowd. I'll be appearing in the Special Collections department of the library from 2pm to closing every Tuesay, and then it's off to Vegas where I'll be opening for the guy who did the LDS family tree about the Queen.
Does anyone have access to B utte directories (if they exist) for the period between about 1895 to mid 1920s? If so, I would like to see what entries there may be for two surnames: Henderson and Bruel. Thanks, Michele in Ohio
