St. Rose sounds like it may have been a Catholic facility. Below is a link to the Helena Diocese's Archives, which covers Butte. It is a wealth of historical information: http://www.diocesehelena.org/pages/archives.htm Just e-mail Sr. Dolores Brinkel, Archivist to make your inquiry. Another option, is to contact the Montana Historical Library and Archives, which house many historical records from governmental institutions, including orphanages, state hospitals and the state prison. Just go to the following link and scroll down to the e-mail address for the Archives and you may make inquiry about the St. Rose Orphanage of Butte: http://msl.state.mt.us/lisd/library-hist.htm Hope these links help you in your search.

He came to Bute, SilverBow county, from St Austell in Cornwall England, we think at the end of the 1890's. We know that if my grandfather ( Ronald Hawken) wasn't born out there, although we think he was,he would have been a very small boy, as his DOB between 1895-1900. We also think that another child, a girl was born, but she died as a baby. The only other thing we know is that John died, in Bute, and my grandmother came home, to England, with Ronald. I am really sorry if all this abit vague and will understand if you can't help but I would be very gratful if you could shed some light, on any of the above.

She was 75 yrs old at the time and told the family she didn't want to live any more and promptly died. Your help would be appreciated. I'll pay for your time. This is important to us. Charla Hardesty

Professor Work is writing a book about First Amendment law in Montana. He is focusing particularly on Montanans that were convicted of sedition during World War I. We have the very basic information on the men (and one woman) that were convicted, but we would like to put "flesh" on "bare bones" stories. Any information you could offer, or guidance on places to look for information on seditionists would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to respond to Professor Work or myself. Thank you!
