I know my ggfather had run the presses on the Miner, and left the state in 1913 for Saskatchewan. I didn't know when he'd arrived, or how young he was. My father remembers the family Brown having a ranch or farm just outside Butte, which he visited as a kid (he was born in 1939). That ranch/farm may have been the one owned by my 2nd greatgrandfather, father of the person for whom I am searching. My gfather (Harley A. Brown) was born in 1909, in Butte so, I now know - based on my step-mom's single comment - that Harley Edgar lived in Montana between 1900 and 1913; he may have lived their prior to 1900, but this one is concrete - the school opened in 1900, so I know he WAS there in the first decade of the century. Does anyone know of, or have a list of students attending the school in the years between 1900-1908? If I can find his years of attendance, I may be able to have records located, or at least I'd have something firm with which to work. - Thanks -

So, I suppose if the other male children are adults also, they are living at different addresses, and there are many Thomas' living in Butte at that time. Perhaps you should obtain a copy of Garr Thomas' obituary for the other names of his children.

REESE had lived in Baltimore and was returned there for burial in Mount Carmel, as was his wife, Elizabeth. The obit from the Baltimore Sun is at the end. "T." is the correct middle initial! I will share with other relatives! Butte Miner, August 11, 1898 Death of John F. (sic) Reese The death of John T. Reese, who was one of the best known citizens of Butte, occurred yesterday at his residence in the canyon about one and a half miles east of the poor farm. Mr. Reese was 67 years of age and was for a long time the superintendent of the Parrot smelter. He leaves a wife and six children, five sons and one daughter, the latter being a resident of Utah, while the sons are all in this city. Deceased was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias, but had not officiated with either of the orders in this city. The remains are being embalmed by Richards the undertaker preparatory to being sent to Baltimore, Md., for interment. Some years ago, Mr. Reese met with an accident on the Union Pacific road somewhere in the neighborhood of Cheyenne and it resulted in the amputation of his left arm. This was followed by one of the most bitterly contested damage suits ever waged in this section. It was brought in the United States court and it resulted in a verdict in favor of the plaintiff for $25,000. This sum Judge Knowles considered excessive and gave Mr. Reese the option of accepting $15,000 or having the verdict set aside and proceeding with a new trial. The gentleman accepted the amount named by the court and the litigation ended. ------------------------------------------ Butte Miner, August 12, 1898 (there were 3 different blurbs that day, so I have separated them) The body of John T. Reese will be shipped to Baltimore, Md., this afternoon. Services will be held at the K. of P. hall at 2 p.m. ------------------------------------- K. of P.
