When the land was offered free, if one built a cabin/house/dwelling and stayed on to improve for some many years to own; where are the records for these filings for Western Montana! My GreatGrandpa Pierre "Pete" Louquet and his sons all filed for these acres in Powell Co, Avon, Helmsville area etc; but I have yet to learn where to get what the filings were, so that I can (as I have in Carbon County, MT) get records from Federal Government!
