My great aunt Minerva Brown, aged 25, left Leeds Co., Upper Canada with her brother Abner and came to Missoula. A year later, Abner moved on to Washington State. Family oral history says he was a book salesman. Minerva stayed in Missoula and later married Theo Loveland a rancher and miller. It has been a mystery why this young woman would have come all the way to Montana where there were no known friends or relatives. She obviously had to earn a living and I am hoping someone on the list can tell me what sort of jobs were available there that would entice her to come so far from home. Since her brother was a book salesman - at least after he came to Montana - I am wondering if there was a publishing industry there. Any comments welcome. Marjorie.
