Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/INB.2ACE/1424.1 Message Board Post: According to the book "Names on the Face of Montana: The Story of Montana's Place Names," by Roberta Carkeek Cheney, published by Mountain Press Publishing Company, copyright 1983, Revised 1984, Seventh Printing, June 2000: "KNOBS [Fallon County] was named for a topographical feature repeatedly found in this area. A post office opened in 1913 with Hannah Green as postmaster. Later, while Barney Heyings was postmaster, he ran a grocery store and meeting place that was as near to being a town as Knobs ever became." --------------- Below is a link to the MTGenWeb Fallon County Rootsweb site which offers many resources for research: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mtfallon/_fll.html Good luck!
