Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/INB.2ACE/1506.1 Message Board Post: All I can find is a brief mention of a PFC Elmer W. Keiffer who, along with PFC Dean O. Pronovost of Missoula; M/Sgt Dean Corey of Great Falls, and Corp. Edward F. Balbie of Helena, returned on a navy transport which docked in Seattle. They had seen action in Korea. This brief article was printed in "The Independent Record," published at Helena, Montana, on October 9, 1951. I can find no other record in Montana for this man.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/INB.2ACE/1505.1 Message Board Post: The land office where the patent was obtained, was located in the city of Missoula, Missoula County, MT. The property, however, was located in Lake County. The city of Polson is the County Seat of Lake County. Go to the following link to see a map of Lake County, with Flathead Lake featured. Click on "Resources" and call the Clerk & Recorder to see where these records might be located. Also, you can contact the Bureau of Land Management office in the area and see about purchasing a map that shows the sections. There is also a large book with these types of maps titled "Montana Gazeteer." http://www.rootsweb.com/~mtlake/mtlake.html By the way, when you go to the link for the BLM/GLO office and enter "Montana" and "Newton," you will see your ancestor's name. Click on "Legal Description" and it will tell you how to read these maps. Good luck!

"Granny White", from Leesville, IN. Sally's first husband was Silas Sutherland, they married in 1803 & moved to near Toronto, Canada. They had 6 children before coming back to America, in 1820, where they settled in the Vevan, IN. area. Silas died there suddenly in about 1820. Two yrs. later she married David White and settled near Leesville, IN, in 1822. She had three more children by this husband. David White died in 1842. Elizabeth Cummings, Sally and David White are buried in the Granny White Cemetery in Leesville, Lawrence Co., IN. I am a Cummings and my parents grew up in Lawrence, Jackson and Owen counties. I was told that I am an ancester of Elizabeth and Sally, but have not been able to make a connection. If anyone knows Elizabeth's husband's name, or her maiden name, or can give me any more information on the family it would be appreciated. Sally's two-storied log house was moved many years! ago to Spring Mill State Park, in Lawrence Co., IN, in Mitchell, IN. Thanks! Virginia R.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/INB.2ACE/1503.1 Message Board Post: You can obtain a copy of the obituary by contacting the Montana Rootsweb Volunteer Obituary Look-up Board; there is one volunteer listed for Missoula County: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~obitl/volmt.html You might want to also try "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" of Montana (RAOGK), as there are two volunteers listed for Missoula County, one of whom will do courthouse record lookups. Death Certificates can be obtained from the Clerk & Recorder of Missoula County: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~obitl/volmt.html The Montana Genealogical Society does have an online death index, but it provides little more than sex, date of death and age at time of death, and county of death: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mtmsgs/death_records.htm I hope this is the kind of information you are seeking.
