    1. [MTMISSOU] Obit: SANDERS, Charles Nobel, 90 -- Dies 15 Mar 2000 in Missoula, MT
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: MTvolunteer Surnames: SANDERS, MARKS Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.montana.counties.missoula/1902.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Extracted from "The Missoulian," published at Missoula, Montana. Online edition, March 16, 2000: CHARLES NOBEL SANDERS MISSOULA - Charles Nobel Sanders, 90, was promoted to his eternal home on Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at St. Patrick Hospital. He was born on Feb. 28, 1910, in Cando, N.D., to Harry and Myrl Sanders. Charles moved with his family to Solway, Minn., where he spent his younger years on a farm. Charles also worked in the woods cutting timber, as a mechanic and later became a machinist. He attended a rural one-room schoolhouse that had all eight grades. Charles was the oldest of seven children, having four brothers and two sisters. On Aug. 23, 1933, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Marks in Solway. They have been happily married and blessed of God to have shared 66 1/2 years together. Charles enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and hiking in the woods and mountains. He loved to play the guitar and violin and sing gospel songs. Charles retired in 1973 from a large naval ordinance shop in Minneapolis and moved to Missoula to live. They enjoyed spending several winters in Southern California and Arizona in their RV. His priority in life was faithfully attending church; he served as an elder for many years and taught Sunday school. He had been a member of the Missoula Alliance Church for the past 26 years. We who knew him are so grateful for the kind of person he was when God called him home. Charles was a loving husband, a faithful Christian, a respected workman and a delightful friend. Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother, four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth. two nieces, one nephew and a host of friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, from 4-7 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m. at the Missoula Alliance Church (100 East Foss Court) with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. There will be a reception following the committal services at the church. In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorials be made to the Missoula Alliance Church for the building of the new sanctuary. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory. ----------- This obit posted as a courtesy. I am not related to the Sanders or Marks families. 1. [MTMISSOU] Looking for my gr-gr-grandmother's sister - maiden name OLSON.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: theresaanngrammer Surnames: Olson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.montana.counties.missoula/1903/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm hoping to find the sister of my gr-gr-grandmother, Mathilda (aka Tillie) Olson 1864-1911. Tillie's obituary indicates she had a sister living in Missoula, MT. Tillie and her family settled in Mankato, Blue Earth County, MN. Their father's name is Simon Olson. According to Tillie's obituary: 1) She was born April 21, 1864 in Romedahl, Hedmarken, Norway. 2) She immigrated with her parents when she was four years old (abt. 1868 or 1869). 3) Her family settled in Mankato. 4) Her obituary indicates a sister (name not mentioned) living in Missoula, MT and an aunt (name not mentioned) living in Mankato, MN. It did not mention her parents, which makes me think they may have passed away already. Tillie married Nicholas Steichen in Moorhead, Clay County, MN on 10-24-1887. Her marriage certificate indicates she was from Blue Earth County, MN. Tillie is listed on the 1900 and 1910 census in Otter Tail County, MN. She died in Lida, Otter Tail County, MN on 03-30-1911. Her death certificate indicates her father's name is Simon Olson. Her mother's name is unknown. Since her husband didn't provide her mother's name for the death certificate, I'm thinking her mother may have passed away before she got married in 1887. Most records indicate Tillie is Norwegian, but the birth certificate for her daughter, Ella Lorena Steichen, indicates she is Swedish. Also, the family history is that she is Swedish not Norwegian. Thank you, Theresa Sayre Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am descended from Patrick Brennan, one of several Brennan siblings (cousins?) who all lived next to each other in Holland Tp in northern Grey County, Ontario, in the mid to late 1800s. I can find 3 children of Norman and Nell on census records: William b 1915, Marion b 1921, and Clara b Dec 1926, but nothing after that. (Margaret's brothers William Henry Brennan and Edward S. Brennan both ended up in Missoula as well, and brother James Alphonsus died in Ravalli, MT.) Chris Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
