He had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Gurnett, one-time Broadwater county treasurer, was born Aug. 3, 1860, in Omaha, Neb., and came with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Gurnett, pioneers of the state and this county, to make his home here when a lad of four. He was married to Miss Margaret McRae and the couple made their home here for a number of years, later removing to the central part of the state. In addition to his widow, Mrs. Margaret Gurnett, he is survived by two daughters, Gertrude, clerk and recorder of Garfield county, and Mrs. Lyle Curdie of Polson; one son, Floyd, in the army and one son, Floyd, in the army and stationed in Arizona; one sister, Mrs. Ed Ragen, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Thomas Swift, both of Townsend. ------------------------------ Extracted from "The Independent Record," published at Helena, Montana on Tuesday, November 16, 1954, page 5: FUNERAL Requiem mass was celebrated this morning at St. Helena Cathedral for Margaret Ellen Gurnett, 86. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery in Great Falls [Cascade County] with the Retz funeral home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were William G. Ragen, Edward M. Ragen, Paul J. Ragen, Walter Ragen and Albert Schwab, all of Townsend, and Edward C. Garnett of Lewistown. MONTANA DEATH INDEX 1954-2002: GURNETT, Margaret E.
