I believe that Daniel, my great-grandmother's brother, followed Thomas Francis, and, then, the others followed him. I am told that Thomas Francis' father, who was also Thomas, had a trading business between Waterford and New Brunswick. I think that is the connection. As for my Minnesota connection: My grandfather, Francis Ferguson MacGowan, the son of Susan Meagher, taught school in Crookston, Minn., and married Rose Mary Keating there in 1886.
