In addition to the info in the Butte newspaper: HELENA INDEPENDENT, Helena, MT, 13 Dec 1883 ....remained for three days before relief came. He suffered intensely during these days as he was compelled to get wood and keep a fire or freeze, and the exertion would cause a fresh flow of blood, which weakened him very rapidly. He is doing well but it is feared his leg will have to be amputated. --- I could not find a followup article or an obituary and could not find Montana Hoxies in the 1880 Federal Census. In the 1900 Federal Census, Stockholm, St. Lawrence County, NY, there was a Clifford Hoxie, born in Montana ca 1895, son of Bent and Mattie Hoxie, both born in New York. The father, Bent, was born in 1874---could he have been the young man Hoxie who was so badly injured in Montana? The 1930 Federal Census Corson County, SD, has a Louis White Hoxie, b. ca 1875, MT, Sioux Indian; his wife, Nancy, Sioux Indian, age 61, born in Montana; Daughter, Susan, age 26, b. SD. Possibly Louis was the young boy who was injured in Montana. I am not related.
