Hi I am in the UK and I am looking for any descendants of Kate Hodnett Cookson who left the UK in may 1895 and is listed as living in Meagher County in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 Censuses. I think she died in Meagher County in 1938 Regards Roger Cookson

I completely missed the article in the Helena Paper. I am very much interested in finding out which Hoxie this was. I was looking at this one specifically as there is a William Hoxie who was married in 1888 in Helena at the age of 23. If the young Hoxie, who was injured was him, he would have been 18 years old in 1883, which sounds like something an 18 year old might do. Meagher County appears to be rather hard to research in as the newspaper for this time period is missing. I have tried contacting other newspapers in the area, but I'm not getting a response. Do you know which city directories might list a Hoxie at this time. I would greatly appreciate any assistance or direction you could give.

In addition to the info in the Butte newspaper: HELENA INDEPENDENT, Helena, MT, 13 Dec 1883 ....remained for three days before relief came. He suffered intensely during these days as he was compelled to get wood and keep a fire or freeze, and the exertion would cause a fresh flow of blood, which weakened him very rapidly. He is doing well but it is feared his leg will have to be amputated. --- I could not find a followup article or an obituary and could not find Montana Hoxies in the 1880 Federal Census. In the 1900 Federal Census, Stockholm, St. Lawrence County, NY, there was a Clifford Hoxie, born in Montana ca 1895, son of Bent and Mattie Hoxie, both born in New York. The father, Bent, was born in 1874---could he have been the young man Hoxie who was so badly injured in Montana? The 1930 Federal Census Corson County, SD, has a Louis White Hoxie, b. ca 1875, MT, Sioux Indian; his wife, Nancy, Sioux Indian, age 61, born in Montana; Daughter, Susan, age 26, b. SD. Possibly Louis was the young boy who was injured in Montana. I am not related.

The line begins with Uriah Woods(1815-1892) of Carter County, Tennessee and Scotland County, Missouri who had son Elbert Woods, b. 1848. Elbert's son Austin Woods b.1875, was in Meagher County, Montana in 1900 - Ravalli County, Montana in 1910 - King County, Washington in 1920. Austin had son Arnold Woods b. 1905. Austin died in 1964 in Sacramento, CA. Arnold Woods died in 1997 in San Diego. Questions: Did Arnold Woods(son of Austin) have any issue? Did Austin Woods have any other issue? Any help with the above would be appreciated. Craig Woods

He accidently cut his knee, nearly bled to death and then dragged himself back to a cabin where he had to wait for three days for someone to come help him. You'd need to send a check made out to Hidden Hollow Hideaway Cattle & Guest Ranch, Box 233, Townsend, Mt. 59644 if you're interested and make sure to e-mail me with the mailing address I should send your book to.Best regards . . .
