Otherwise, you should post on the board for the county in which they lived. Where did Thomas live an die, and when did he die? Do you know anything about his siblings? SO, it's Cotter's rifle. The inscription is crude and hand done by Cotter. I will encluse a few pictures to show you. The rifle appears to have been owned by a George Wilson during the Gold Rush and is so dated. So Cotter got it from Wilson or whomever Wilson may have given it to. It's a Model 1841 Tryon rifle dated 1847 purchased for the Mexican War. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I only met her once when I was a little girl, but I loved her the first time I met her. She came to visit us once and she definitely made a lasting impression on us all. I know my father loved her dearly. Marie and Grace were my grandmother's sisters. My grandmother's name was Eleanor and they had anothr sister named Jean and two brothers, Joseph and Harold. I know very little about Grace, except that she died at a very young age. Anything else you could tell me about Grace or Marie would be greatfully appreciated. My father passed in 1975 and my aunt a few years later so I have no one who can tell me anything about them. I know it is a lot to ask, but would you possibly consider sending me a copy of any pictures you might have of Grace or Marie, I will gladly pay you for them. I knew Maurice Holmes and his son who was younger than me. Maurice remarried a woman named Lena who was a school teacher and a lovely person. Marie was a wonderful warm person and I thought, as a child, she had a great sense of humor. When we lived In Chula Vista, CA, Marie and Colonel (or George) visited us often and one year rented a home there for a time. Marie and George built and maintained a motel and service station in White Sulphur Springs. They lived in the main unit. I don't know what else I can tell you but don't be afraid to ask questions that might jog my memory. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Marie was my Grandmother's sister. I only met her once when I was in grade school, but I still remember her visit and how terrific she was. Did your parents, by any chance know my Greataunt Grace, who was married to Maurice D. Holmes. All I know of her was that they married in 1923 and she died in 1926. I didn't start my research until after my father had passed, so I didn't even know that she had existed. If you have any information it would be greatly appreciated.
